Things to consider before enrolling at LPLTC…

Check with your Counselor Make sure that you are on the correct diploma track and that your Area of Concentration is correct in PowerSchool.

Exemplar Attendance If you aren’t at school, you aren’t learning. If you aren’t learning, you aren’t gaining the skills necessary for certification, the work environment, etc. If you aren’t gaining those skills, you have wasted your time and our time as well.

Good Behavior Record Your track record is a good indicator of how responsible you are. After safety training and experience, LPLTC students will be using needles in labs, putting hands in engines, and representing the home school, LPLTC, and LPPS in the community, etc.; therefore, you need a good track record of positive behavior. If there are consistent behavioral issues, you could potentially lose internship opportunities or return to your home school campus for Semester 2.

Recommended 2.0 GPA The ability to complete the rigorous coursework required for the national certification curriculum and possible dual enrollment credit is necessary. For internship courses, if you do not make a 70% or better for Semester 1 (80% for PNII and PCT) or are unable to participate in an internship for other reasons, you remain at LPLTC to complete content modules and research assignments.

IEP Holders If you currently have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), an IEP must be held to reflect LPLTC attendance before the first day of school. The Director and/or the LPLTC IEP Facilitator must be in attendance. IEP teams should review information at All Things Jump Start when considering the appropriate pathway and career preparation experience for the individual student.

Being fortunate enough to attend LPLTC, you are expected to fulfill our motto, “Meant for GREATness!” Greatness is not synonymous with grades; it includes appearance, character and attitude. Greatness is not something given to a person. It is achieved…one must work for it. So, it is meant that students should do their homework, study, get involved, be respectful to all people encountered, care about his appearance, clean up after himself, etc. This is all part of our #realworldwork philosophy! We are excited to see you take the steps necessary to become a part of the GREATness that LPLTC offers!

Sincerely,

Kimberly P. Albin LPLTC Director/Principal

LPPS Application Process for LPLTC I. Introduction: An admission process is necessary in career and technical education (CTE) schools where space is limited. CTE laboratories, simulations, and shops are designed and equipped to serve a specific maximum number of students safely. Consequently, such laboratories lack both the space and flexibility to accommodate the possible needs and/or interests of all applicants. Interested students will complete an application.

II. Eligibility: Any Livingston Parish junior (11th grade) or senior (12th grade) student from a public high school in the Livingston Parish Public School district (Albany High School, Denham Springs High School, Doyle High School, French Settlement High School, Holden High School, Live Oak High School, Maurepas High School, Springfield High School, and Walker High School) is eligible to apply subject to the availability of openings. Seat Counts Are as Follows: Automotive Service Technician (AST) includes AST II= 36 For Example: Criminal Justice (CJ) = 44 Knight High School LPPS Total Drafting and Design (DD) = 40 10th grade students 200 2000 Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) = 36 11th grade students 200 2000 Graphic Design (DES) includes Graphics II= 44 Total: 400 4000 Patient Care Technician (PCT) = 18 400 / 4000 = 0.1 (Knight High Schools % of seats) Pre-Nursing II (PNII) = 36 Automotive Seats – (36) (0.1) = 3.6 seats = 4 seats TOTAL Seats = 254

For example, if students schedule through PowerSchool at the home school, then they will need to complete this step as well. 4. The application will be submitted to the LPLTC Director and, then, forwarded to the counselor.

Applications for the first round of admittance is closed by the THIRD Friday in April.

Late Applications received after the THIRD Friday of April will continue to be processed with enrollment depending on seat availability. The Wait List is discontinued after the first day of school in the attending school year for Semester 1, and students must wait until the following school year to reapply if they are still enrolled in the LPPS system.
