The Toronto Argonauts are heading East to The Maritimes to take on the Montreal Alouettes on Sunday, August 25th. As the league looks to grow the game of Canadian football from coast to coast and with the possibility of a 10th expansion team on the horizon, the Argos are honoured and excited to host a game in The Maritimes. Under the lights: Toronto will play seven of its eight home games at BMO Field at night; three on Saturday nights, three on Friday nights and one on a Thursday night. The Argos call BMO Field home for the fourth consecutive year and will have a new playing surface to get excited about. A new grass surface, strengthened with intertwined artificial fibers that help protect and hold the sur- face together as well as reduce recovery time between events, will be in place before the Argos take the field for their home opener. The return of the CNE game! The Argos welcome the Edmonton Eskimos to BMO Field on Friday, August 16th, at 7:30 p.m. Free admission to the CNE included with the purchase of a game ticket. • Roughrider General Managers
Roughrider General Managers Jeremy O’Day 2015, 2019-Current Jeremy O’Day was named vice president of football operations & general manager on January 18, 2019. This is O’Day’s second tenure as the Riders’ general manager after he was officially named the franchises 15th general manager on August 31, 2015 – a positional he held on an interim basis for the final nine games of that season. The former Roughriders offensive lineman moved into the front office after retiring as a player in February 2011, accepting the position of football operations co-ordinator. In 2012 he was named assistant general manager, a position he held for the next four years. In December of 2015, O’Day was named assistant vice president of football operations & administration under Chris Jones. In this role, O’Day led many day-to-day football operations activities, including player evaluations, contract negotiations, and co-ordinating training camp, mini camps and free-agent camps. He also participated in the scouting of NFL, NCAA and U Sports games. O’Day’s playing career in the CFL began in 1997, when he joined the Toronto Argonauts after a standout career at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He played two seasons with the Argos, winning a Grey Cup with them in 1997. In 1999, O’Day signed as a free agent with Saskatchewan and spent the next 12 seasons on the Riders’ offensive line. He started 202 regular-season games for Saskatchewan, which ranks him 12th on the club’s all-time list of games played. He also appeared in 16 playoff games and three Grey Cup games with the Roughriders, helping them win the CFL title in 2007.

  • The 1962 Grey Cup: Played in a Fog
THE COFFIN CORNER: Vol. 13, No. 6 (1991) The 1962 Grey Cup: Played in a Fog by Jack Ziegler Most pro football games take 3 to 3 1/2 hours to complete. However, when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers met the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for the Grey Cup Championship in 1962 the game took 25 hours because of fog delay. Or as Bobby Kuntz of the Ti-Cats put it: “I waited seven years to play in a Grey Cup game and then I get two in two days.” The Grey Cup game was scheduled for 1 p.m. on December 1, 1962 in Toronto’s Canadian National Exhibition stadium. As early as 30 November, league and club officials were concerned about the heavy fog in Toronto. Joseph Sheehan of the New York Times reported that “It was so foggy ...in downtown Toronto that until noon it was impossible to see across even a narrow street.” Yet by 11:30 a.m. on game day things seemed to be going well. While there was heavy fog over Lake Ontario, weather at CNE stadium was delightful with the temperature in the fifties and sunny skies. But by 1 p.m. kickoff time the field was covered with haze as prevailing winds began to move the fog in from the lake. By the end of the first quarter there were dense patches of fog on the field that eventually became a solid mass. From the stands and the press box, fans and reporters could only see halfway across the 65 yard wide field.
