YANGON, 5 Aug — The ceremony to mark com- pletion of ploughing fields for early monsoon paddy cultivation for 2005-2006 was held at the quality seed strain farm in Bago this morning, attended by member of the State Peace and Development Council Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than of the Ministry of Defence. Also present on the occasion were Chairman of Bago Division Peace and Development Council Com- mander of Southern Command Maj-Gen Ko Ko, local authorities, departmental personnel, social organiza- tion members and local people. Speaking on the occasion, Lt-Gen Khin Maung Than said that the Government is carrying out develop- ment tasks in all regions of the nation for narrowing the gap between rural and urban regions. The State economy depends on the agricultural sector. Similarly, eco- nomic growth of rural people also depends on the agricultural development. Targets of growing 10 main crops, three new items and three perennial crops were set for States and Divisions annually for ensuring local food sufficiency.
