    BGHS Dance Program Teachers 2020 Ana Welsh (BGHS Staff) - Dance Company Ana completed her HSC at Newtown High School of the Performing Arts and graduated from UNSW in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts (Dance/Theatre) and Bachelor of Education. Outside of her teaching career, Ana had the privilege of being a member of two youth contemporary dance companies, Pulse8 (2008) and youMove (2009-2010) with which she performed in works by Sarah-Vyne Vassallo, Martin Del Amo, Fiona Malone, Narelle Benjamin, Anton and the Artistic Director of both companies, Kay Armstrong. Ana was also awarded a choreographic residency with youMove in 2010. Her work within the performing arts industry includes being a featured dancer with the St George Banks ‘Huddle’ video and more recently as a Teaching and Performing artist for Murmuration (2015 - 2017), Sydney’s first professional integrated performance company. While with Murmuration, Ana performed in the No Offense But, Comedy Show as part of the featured event for the Don’t Dis My Ability Campaign 2015 and Sydney Comedy Festival ‘Comedy for Kids!’ program 2016. Charlotte Patterson - Acrobatics Charlotte Patterson has worked as an acrobatics coach for over eight years. She grew up competing in artistic gymnastics before moving to acrobatic gymnastics at age 10. She’s had the opportunity to compete at five National Acrobatics Gymnastics Championships as well as training and competing in the International Stream. In 2014, she was lucky enough to travel to Belgium to participate in an International Acrobatics Competition (FIAC). Charlotte now has a strong passion for teaching and transferring her knowledge to others.

    1 This book is dedicated to my grandsons. In the beginning this was to be just a short, hopefully interesting, booklet for you. I began collecting Santas or Gift Givers dolls (pictured at end of book) 15 years ago at an art show in Pennsylvania. The first ones I chose were the ones representing the countries of our closest ancestors; Germany, Wales, England and the Netherlands. Having run out of countries with ties to our heritage, and still interested in acquiring more, I next bought ones from the countries we visited for Gramps’ overseas conferences. Each Gift Giver came with a single paragraph describing his or her role in the distribution of gifts. The artist told me she was writing a more comprehensive book and it was almost complete (around 1998). So I waited. Almost every year, I added another Gift Giver. No book. Then, in 2002, the artist suffered a major fire, destroying everything, including her book and gift givers. And, no, she did not computerize let alone use a back-up! I encouraged her to start the book again. Two years later, she told me that she had given up that project, and she also had stopped making Gift Givers and went in a different artistic direction. Okay. I could do this. I could expand the information of the Gift Givers I have, throw in some extra countries, and give the finished copy to you kids. It evolved into a far more ambitious project as one subject led to another, a strange word or tradition had me looking that up wondering how it came to be, leading to yet another oddity of Christmas.

As another year draws to a close, so comes the time that each of us reflect on the events of the year past, the challenges, and what has brought happiness to our lives. On a personal level, I reflect on the joys brought by good friends and family – a sentiment that I’m sure is shared by members of the Maltese community. And as Minister for Multicultural Affairs, I reflect on the success of our State, its wonderful diversity, and how our harmony and prosperity owes so much to communities like the Maltese. That is why I’d like to take this opportunity to thank each of you for the tremendous contribution that you’ve made to South Australia throughout 2013. Your contribution to the construction of the ANZAC Memorial in Floriana which I was fortunate to visit last year, is a particularly notable and very moving example of your achievements, and it deserves special recognition and congratulations.
