Privately Guided Day – Rotorua

With its unique volcanic landscape, living Maori culture, natural hot springs and plenty of options for adventure, Rotorua is one of New Zealand's most famous destinations. When explaining the appeal of their region, the people of Rotorua like to talk of five spirits. You can feel the spirit of the earth, as it rumbles beneath your feet and escapes, hissing, through fumaroles and geysers. You can witness the spirit of Maori culture, with authentic village and performance experiences.

With a soak in a natural hot spring or a relaxing massage, you can rejuvenate your spirit. Or free your spirit with outdoor adventures - trout fishing, kayaking, waterskiing, swimming, hiking and mountain biking. And if it's excitement you crave, you can challenge your spirit with adrenalin- charged extreme activities such as sky-diving, jet boating and zorbing.

Apart from its surprising crater, mountain and lake landscape, Rotorua is memorable for striking Tudor-style architecture and beautiful public parks. The farmland around city is some of the most fertile in New Zealand. Watching a sheep show or staying on a working farm is a great way to get a different view of the region.

Wai-o-tapu Thermal Wonderland Wai-o-tapu (Māori for "sacred waters") is an active geothermal area at the southern end of the Okataina Volcanic Centre in New Zealand's Taupo Volcanic Zone. Due to dramatic geothermal conditions beneath the earth, the area has many hot springs noted for their colourful appearance, in addition to the Lady Knox Geyser, Champagne Pool, Artist's Palette, Primrose Terrace and boiling mud pools. These can mostly be viewed through access by foot, and in addition to a paid and curated experience, naturally forming hot springs appear around the area.

Private Kayak & Walk Marlborough Sounds

This combo is without a doubt the best way to experience the Marlborough Sounds if you only have a few days. You can experience all the iconic activities of the spectacular Queen Charlotte Sound in just one day. This unique experience combines the best of sea kayaking with walking on the popular Queen Charlotte Track - all completed at day's end with a private water taxi back to Picton.

We depart for our launch point at Ngakuta Bay, just 20 minutes scenic drive from Picton. This trip takes you away from the harbour environs to the truly spectacular western end of the Sound where there is less boat traffic and many beautiful bays and coves to explore as well as wildlife to see.

After a detailed safety briefing, it is time to set off on a great day's adventure. Your combo begins with a privately guided sea kayak tour in what is truly some of the best paddling in the Marlborough Sounds in the western arm of Queen Charlotte Sound. Within a short time you are exploring the shoreline, spotting rays and sea birds and learning about the lush native bush near the water's edge.

Your kayak tour concludes a few hours later at the small settlement of Anakiwa. Here you can don your tramping boots and pack and depart on your guided hike of the Queen Charlotte Track from Anakiwa to Mistletoe Bay. This section of the track passes through some of the most beautiful bush of the whole 70km walk and is a moderate walk of around 3-4 hours (11km).

At the conclusion of the Queen Charlotte Track, you walk down to Mistletoe Bay in time for collection by a private water taxi to return to Picton. It's a great way to finish - a thrilling boat ride with fantastic views back towards where you've been.

Edenhouse, Nelson 3 nights

Edenhouse, idyllically set in 48 acres of an area of outstanding natural beauty, Edenhouse is a boutique luxury guesthouse designed in the style of an elegant yet contemporary English-style country house. Like any masterpiece Edenhouse plays the scales beautifully, twisting large and small together. Take the main house, for instance. As you approach the property, it seems fairly modest in size—a spot of cream architecture dropped on the rich green hills of the Orinoco Valley. And then, standing in the gardens directly in front of the house, it starts to feel quite grand—a big breath of classical proportion. The paradox continues inside, where the two guest rooms (the third is in a separate cottage) are actually vast suites—acreage as much as accommodation.

The gracious hosts of Edenhouse are Peter and Bobbie Martin – big-hearted owners who built and designed the house and gardens from scratch. Their enjoyment comes from sharing this piece of paradise with their guests and they most certainly go out of their way to make your stay exceptional.

Edenhouse - Suite Located in the main homestead, the suites are beautifully appointed with all the furnishings, designed down to the last detail by Bobbie. Suites have pure Irish linen sheets and luxury toiletries. They are air-conditioned, and the well-stocked refrigerator, Sky television, laundry service, and wireless internet are all included in the tariff.
