The Pilots landed three players on the All-WCC first team, including redshirt senior Megan Rapinoe, who earned WCC Player of the Year honors. Rapinoe was joined on the all-conference first team by teammates sophomore Sophie Schmidt and freshman Danielle Foxhoven, who was selected as the WCC Freshman of the Year. Rounding out this year’s awards was the Uni- versity of San Diego senior goalkeeper Brittany Cameron, who earned Defensive Player of the Year honors, while Portland Head Coach Garrett Smith took home his second consecutive Coach of the Year accolade. Rapinoe, who has faced a tremendous amount of adversity the past two seasons with season-ending knee injuries in 2006 and 2007, has enjoyed a standout senior season. The Redding, CA native led the WCC during conference play with five assists, while scoring three goals. Ra- pinoe is the seventh Pilot in WCC history to garner the league’s Player of the Year award, and the second straight, following former UP standouts Angie Woznuk (2007), Christine Sinclair (2005, 04, 02), Erin Misaki (2000), Justi Baumgardt (1996), Shannon MacMillan (1995, 93), and Tiffeny Milbrett (1994, 92). Cameron becomes just the second Torero to earn the league’s top defensive honor and the first since Dawn Birdsall took home the award in 1995. Cameron helped San Diego to a second place finish in the WCC standings and the most wins in conference play in program history. The Dublin, CA native posted four shutouts in seven WCC games to rank second in the conference. Foxhoven is the 10th Pilot to be named the WCC’s Freshman of the Year and the fourth in-a-row. She follows teammates Keelin Winters (2007), Michelle Enyeart (2006) and Rapinoe (2005), as well as former UP standouts Lindsey Huie (2002), Christine Sinclair (2001), Michelle French (1995), Holly Pierce (1994), Justi Baumgardt (1993), and Shannon MacMillan (1992). For leading the Pilots to their record 10th league crown, Smith was awarded his third WCC Coach of the Year honor and his second in-a-row. Smith previously earned the conference’s top coaching honor in 2005. 2008 WCC All-Conference Teams FIRST TEAM YR POS HOMETOWN SECOND TEAM YR POS HOMETOWN Brittany Cameron, USD SR GK Dublin, CA Kelsey Davis, POR JR GK Thousand Oaks, CA Ashley Copp, PEP SR MF Coronado, CA Michelle Enyeart, POR JR F Hemet, CA Danielle Foxhoven, POR FR F Littleton, CO Amy Epsten, USD SR F San Diego, CA Sheridan Jones, GON SO MF Hillsboro, OR Kristina Hall, USF JR MF Berkeley, CA Jen Mello, USD SR F Pleasanton, CA Tiffany Harrison, LMU JR D/MF Murrieta, CA Megan Rapinoe, POR SR F/MF Redding, CA Amanda Lernor, LMU SR D Scottsdale, AZ Katherine Reynolds, SCU JR F/MF Medina, WA Shannon Omahen, LMU SR D Canyon Country, CA Amanda Rupp, PEP SR F Encinitas, CA Kendra Perry, SCU SO MF Livermore, CA Sophie Schmidt, POR SO MF Abbotsford, B.C.
