Next week we will have Lex Mawson who is a Community Relationships Coordinator from the Parenting Place in to speak with our students about changes in puberty and the many challenges that emerging adolescents may face (including social media use). Lex is a relatable and dynamic presenter. This session will take place on Thursday, 31st October. If you wish your child not to participate, please inform your child’s teacher. The night before, on Wednesday, 30th October at 7.00pm, Lex will also run a meeting for Parents and Kids. The purpose of the meeting is to inform parents about emerging adolescents and to encourage you to have the confidence to have meaningful conversations with your children. This is an excellent way to build and strengthen understanding and relationships with you preteen- teen. Also, by coming along to the meeting, parents will be well informed about what will be covered in the presentation the following day. More information to come. Arataki Skate Bowl This week we have concerns raised by the Arataki/Bayfair Community regarding anti-social behaviour and youths hanging out at the Arataki Skate bowl. This may or may not be students from MMI. Residents and the local community constables will be keeping an eye on things. Parents/caregivers you can assist by ensuring that you know where your emerging adolescent is and who they might be hanging out with. Matapihi Bus This week we have also had some concerns raised, by bus drivers, about silliness and behaviour on the Matapihi bus. We have spoken to the students concerns and reiterated expectations for safe travel. Talent Quest We look forward to a very entertaining evening at MMI at 7.00 pm tonight. This is a wonderful opportunity to see the talent on display. There will also be raffles and refreshments available from the Parent Support Group. See you all there. Black Out – this Friday This Friday - to support the ALL Blacks and the Silver Ferns in the Constellation cup. Students may wear their “Black Clothing” for a gold coin donation.
