Mini-Series Porsche GT Racing Part 2 www.porscheroadandrace.com Mini-Series Porsche GT Racing Part 2 Published: 7th February 2020 By: Glen Smale Online version: https://www.porscheroadandrace.com/mini-series-porsche-gt-racing-part-2/ Le Mans 24 Hour, 16-17 June 2012: The #55 JWA-Avila Porsche 997 GT3 RSR driven by Paul Daniels, Joël Camathias and Markus Palttala gets the full attention of the team in the pits. This car would finish 33rd overall and eighth in the GTE Am class This feature, the second in our four-part mini-series, picks up where we left off last time (2005-2008) and highlights the continued growth and success of the evergreen Porsche 911 on the European scene between 2010 and 2012. Having benefitted from full media and photographer access at these races, we were able to get trackside and in the pit and paddock, and we can now bring you a selection of images from our archive. www.porscheroadandrace.com Le Mans 24 Hour, 12-13 June 2010: The #88 Team Felbermayr-Proton Porsche 997 GT3 RSR driven by Horst Felbermayr Sr. and Jr. with Miro Konopka finished eighth in LMGT2 class The 911 has been, and will remain, the cornerstone of Porsche’s motorsport effort and this feature looks at the 997 model up until it bowed out of competition in 2012. The following season saw the introduction of a new 911 RSR that was based on the 991 roadgoing model. Looking at the results for the 2012 season, a new car was needed as they finished a quite distant third in GTE Pro. www.porscheroadandrace.com Le Mans 24 Hour, 11-12 June 2011: The #80 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 997 GT3 RSR of Jörg Bergmeister, Lucas Luhr and Patrick Long finished 18th overall and fifth in the LMGTE Pro class (310 laps) But as we have said before, the story of the 911 in motorsport is like no other, because the 911 is the only single continuously evolving sports car model in the market. The 911 model has won more races worldwide than any other manufacturer can claim, and so we unashamedly present a brief look into this remarkable model’s achievements between 2010 and 2012. Buckle up as we take to the starting grid – we hope you enjoy the journey down memory lane… Motorsport season 2010 The 2010 FIA GT3 European Championship season, which commenced on 1 May at www.porscheroadandrace.com Silverstone, was the fifth season of the FIA GT3 European Championship. The season featured six double-header rounds, with each race lasting for a duration of 60 minutes, with most races serving as support races to the newly formed FIA GT1 World Championship. FIA GT3 European Championship, Silverstone, 2 May 2010: Siso Cunill and Tim Bergmeister won the season-opening race at Silverstone in their 4-litre #20 Trackspeed Porsche 997 GT3 R (1st in Race 1 & 3rd in Race 2) www.porscheroadandrace.com FIA GT3 European Championship, Silverstone, 2 May 2010: The Finnish pairing of Petri Lappalainen and Markus Palttala drove their #60 Prospeed Competition Porsche 997 GT3 R to eleventh place in both heats Although all eyes were on the main Audi/Peugeot battle, there were many close battles being fought all the way down the field. Peugeot definitely had the speed to win, but one by one they all retired with the same mechanical failure, leaving Audi to score a 1-2-3 finish for the fourth time, and earning them their ninth Le Mans victory. The much publicised Beechdean Mansell Ginetta Zytek, driven by three members of the Mansell clan, completed only four laps before it was brought back to the pits on the back of a recovery truck. Despite being down on the speed of the Corvette and Ferrari, the factory Porsche 997 GT3 RSR had the reliability and keeping out of trouble for 24 hours, was victorious in the LM GT2 class. www.porscheroadandrace.com Le Mans 24 Hour, 12-13 June 2010: Patrick Pilet, Patrick Long and Raymond Narac drove the IMSA Performance Matmut #76 Porsche 997 GT3 RSR to 17th place overall and fifth in the LMGT2 class (321 laps) www.porscheroadandrace.com Le Mans 24 Hour, 12-13 June 2010: The #77 Team Felbermayr-Proton Porsche 997 GT3 RSR piloted by Marc Lieb, Richard Lietz and Wolf Henzler came home eleventh overall and first in class (338 laps) www.porscheroadandrace.com Le Mans 24 Hour, 12-13 June 2010: Despite looking resplendent in its striking livery, the #80 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 997 GT3 RSR of Seth Neiman, Darren Law and Jörg Bergmeister unfortunately failed to finish, completing just 61 laps www.porscheroadandrace.com Le Mans 24 Hour, 12-13 June 2010: Marco Holzer, Richard Westbrook and Timo Scheider drove a fine race in their #97 BMS Scuderia Italia SpA Porsche 997 GT3 RSR finishing in 14th place overall and third in the LMGT2 class (327 laps) The Autosport 1000 km of Silverstone on 12 September was the fifth and final round of the 2010 Le Mans Series season and the inaugural race of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup. Porsche won all three championship titles in the GT2-class of the Le Mans Series. Fifth position was sufficient for Porsche works drivers Marc Lieb and Richard Lietz to successfully defend the Drivers’ title in the 911 GT3 RSR. The German Felbermayr team under the direction of owner Christian Ried celebrated a convincing win of the Team title for the first time, and in the fiercely-contested GT2 category, Porsche also secured the prestigious Manufacturers’ title. www.porscheroadandrace.com Autosport 1000 km, Silverstone, 12 September 2010: Richard Westbrook and the 22-year- old Porsche-Junior Marco Holzer started in fifth position in their 4-litre #75 Prospeed Competition Porsche 997 GT3 RSR, crossing the finishing line in second place www.porscheroadandrace.com Autosport 1000 km, Silverstone, 12 September 2010: Patrick Pilet and Raymond Narac brought their #76 IMSA Performance Matmut Porsche 997 GT3 RSR home in sixth place www.porscheroadandrace.com Autosport 1000 km, Silverstone, 12 September 2010: Factory drivers Marc Lieb and Richard Lietz stayed out of trouble to ensure the championship title in their #77 Team Felbermayr- Proton Porsche 997 GT3 RSR – they crossed the finishing line in fifth place www.porscheroadandrace.com Autosport 1000 km, Silverstone, 12 September 2010: Although tenth place in class was not what Christian Ried, Martin Ragginger and factory driver Romain Dumas were expecting at Silverstone driving their #88 Team Felbermayr-Proton Porsche 997 GT3-RSR, but it was enough to secure third place in the 2010 GT2 drivers’ classification Motorsport season 2011 The 2011 24 Hours of Le Mans was the 79th running of the famous endurance race, and took place on 11-12 June that year. The Audi team didn’t have it all their own way this year, as two of the three works cars were out of the running when they succumbed to accidents early on. The surviving Audi would fend off the persistent attacks by Peugeot, to take yet another victory. 2011 was of course the year of the horrific accident involving Allan McNish, when his #3 Audi R18 TDI slammed into the tyre wall just before the Esses. www.porscheroadandrace.com This was also the first year of the new GTE Pro and Am classes, and it would be the Corvette that would take the first of the GTE Pro honours. The top finishing Porsche was the #77 GT3 RSR, followed by the similar #76 and #80 cars. Corvette would also take the top place in the GTE Am class, with the #70 Porsche GT3 RSR in second place. Le Mans 24 Hour, 11-12 June 2011: Christophe Bourret, Pascal Gibon and Jean-Philippe Belloc in the #70 Larbre Compétition Porsche 997 GT3 RSR finished 21st overall and second in the LMGTE Am class (301 laps) www.porscheroadandrace.com Le Mans 24 Hour, 11-12 June 2011: The top finishing Porsche was the #77 Team Felbermayr-Proton Porsche 997 GT3 RSR driven by works drivers Marc Lieb, Wolf Henzler and Richard Lietz. They crossed the line in 16th overall and fourth in the LMGTE Pro class (312 laps) www.porscheroadandrace.com Le Mans 24 Hour, 11-12 June 2011: The #80 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 997 GT3 RSR of Jörg Bergmeister, Lucas Luhr and Patrick Long finished 18th overall and fifth in the LMGTE Pro class (310 laps) www.porscheroadandrace.com Le Mans 24 Hour, 11-12 June 2011: For the second year in a row, the #81 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 997 GT3 RSR of Seth Neiman, Darren Law and Spencer Pumpelly failed to finish, posting a DNF in the LMGTE Am class after 211 laps Motorsport season 2012 This year marked the 80th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The #1 Audi R18 e-tron quattro driven by André Lotterer, Marcel Fässler and Benoît Tréluyer started from pole position and despite the usual pressures of the 24-hour race, this car was the first across the finish line on the Sunday. 2012 also saw the debut of the Highcroft Racing No. 0 Nissan Deltawing, the first Garage 56 entry. This experimental race car, which was putting up a good performance, was the unfortunate victim of an unforced error by one of the LMP1 Toyotas, when it was forced off the track after 75 laps. www.porscheroadandrace.com This was not Porsche’s greatest year at Le Mans, as the highest finishing Porsche was the #67 cars that finished in 21st place overall and second in the GTE Am class. Le Mans 24 Hour, 16-17 June 2012: The #67 IMSA Performance Matmut Porsche 997 GT3 RSR finished 21st O/A and second in the GTE Am class (328 laps) in the hands of Anthony Pons, Nicolas Armindo and Raymond Narac www.porscheroadandrace.com Le Mans 24 Hour, 16-17 June 2012: The #77 Team Felbermayr-Proton Porsche 997 GT3 RSR (GTE Pro class) driven by Richard Lietz, Marc Lieb and Wolf Henzler retired after 185 laps www.porscheroadandrace.com Le Mans 24 Hour, 16-17 June 2012: Seth Neiman, Spencer Pumpelly and Patrick Pilet reversed the results of the previous two years when they drove their #79 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 997 GT3 RSR to 27th place O/A and fourth in the GTE Am class (313 laps) www.porscheroadandrace.com Le Mans 24 Hour, 16-17 June 2012: The #80 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 997 GT3 RSR of Jörg Bergmeister, Marco Holzer and Patrick Long (GTE Pro) retired after 114 laps with accident damage www.porscheroadandrace.com Le Mans 24 Hour, 16-17 June 2012: On the starting grid, the team and officials, hand on heart, get into good voice as the national anthems are sung.

MEDIA INFORMATION November 2013 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship Round 7: 6 Hours of Shanghai Victory for the N°1 AUDI R18 e-tron quattro/MICHELIN, as Tom Kristensen/Loïc Duval/Allan McNish secure the 2013 WEC Drivers’ title After the torrential rain that forced the organisers to halt the recent 6 Hours of Fuji after just 16 laps, all spent behind the safety car, Audi Sport Team Joest and Toyota Motorsport GmbH were both eager to join battle once again this weekend in China. In contrast to the conditions encountered in Japan, the 6 Hours of Shanghai was marked by clear skies and warm weather (air temperature: approximately 25°C, and track temperatures up to 30°C) which enabled the teams to produce yet another thrilling show, with the outcome only settled with less than half-an-hour remaining. The pole-winning N°7 Toyota TS030-Hybrid of Wurz/Lapierre carved out an early lead, while the N°8 sister car – with Antony Davidson in command – engaged in a fight with André Lotterer in the N°1 Audi R18 e-tron quattro. On Lap 10, the British driver succeeded in finding a way past to ease into second place. The two Japanese prototypes then proceeded to dominate the top of the leaderboard until the eventful 143rd lap (190 laps completed in total). After 4½ hours of racing, the N°8 Toyota TS030-Hybrid was suddenly eliminated when its front- right suspension failed under barking for Turn 6. This promoted the N°1 Audi to second spot, approximately half-a-minute behind the N°7 Toyota, thanks to a strong stint from Benoît Tréluyer in the German car, as well as to a couple of time-consuming „moments‟ for the Japanese team‟s Nicolas Lapierre while overtaking slower competitors.

With third place overall in Phoenix Racing's Audi LMS R8 Marc Bronzel (Siek), Luca Ludwig (Roisdorf), Dennis Rostek (Porta Westfalica) and Markus Winkelhock (Berglen) presented the team with an unexpected surprise since this quartet did not even number among the favorites before the race started. The conservative and mechanically easy going driving style of the Phoenix squad, however, paid dividends: The Audi R8 LMS with start number 97 ran – apart from a small electronical problem during the opening stages – with the smallest technical problem. Of particular note was the performance of DTM driver Markus Winkelhock, who, after only landing a drive in the Phoenix team at the last moment, drove constantly fast lap times without any experience of the Nordschleife and in the closing stages convincingly defended the class lead.

Press Release April 29, 2012 No. M 23/12 International GT Open, Races 1 and 2 in Portimao/Portugal Perfect start to the season for Porsche customer teams Stuttgart. Two races, two wins: the European customer teams headed into the new International GT Open season with great success. The big winners of the race week- end were Porsche works driver Marco Holzer (Germany) and Nick Tandy (Great Brit- ain) driving for Manthey Racing. In the Autodromo do Algarve, the German-British duo won the 70 kilometre race on Saturday as well as the 20 kilometre shorter sprint on Sunday in the 911 GT3 RSR, the top model of Porsche customer racing. A triple victory to Porsche at Sunday’s race crowned the season-opening weekend. 35 vehi- cles from eleven different marques were at the start. The French IMSA Matmut Performance team were delighted with their second place on Sunday. At the wheel of the 911 GT3 RSR, factory pilot Patrick Pilet and team boss Raymond Narac (both France) shared driving duties. Position three went to the Italian outfit Autorlando Sport, who contests the series with the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. At the same time, this handed the Italians victory in the GTS class which is based on the FIA GT3 regulations. The 911 GT3 RSR competes in the Super GT class which is for more powerful vehicles and is based on the FIA GT2 regulations. “It’s just fantastic to kick off the new season with maximum points,” says a thrilled Marco Holzer. Particularly on Saturday, the 22-year-old and his 28-year-old team- mate Tandy, both GT Open rookies, gave a brilliant performance.
