100% attendance pupils Greetings from the school
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been an incredibly busy and purposeful term inside and out of classrooms here at Stanwell and our newsle er gives a flavour of the work that has gone on and highlights some of the ways in which students and staff have helped make it such a vibrant learning community.
I am sure that pupils, parents and carers would like to join me in thanking all of the staff at Stanwell for their tremendous hard work and commitment to the students of the school. They are hugely commi ed to ensuring the best possible experiences for our young people, whether in lessons or through the extra‐curricular clubs, groups, trips and visits that they provide. As you’ll see from the newsle er our wonderful students con nue to make an outstanding contribu on to all aspects of school life and are a credit to the whole community. We are enormously proud of them all.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, our parents and carers, for all of your sup‐ port of the school and for working in partnership with us during 2019.
On behalf of all at Stanwell School, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Yours faithfully,
Trevor Brown Headteacher

A CULTURE OF HIGH EXPECTATIONS AND STANDARDS
As outlined in the School’s Behaviour Policy and Uniform Policy. Governors and Staff have a clear vision that requires all stake holders to expect high standards that impact positively on learning and outcomes for all pupils. We are grateful for your continued support and coopera- tion in maintaining high standards of uniform, punctuality and attendance. Failure to comply with these basic school rules can detract from teaching and learning and result in pupils miss- ing vital discussions in classrooms that are focused on examination preparation and crucial subject content. To further develop a culture of high expectations, mutual respect and to ensure there is a safe and stimulating environment, students and parents/carers are asked to make themselves famil- iar with the School’s Lunch and Break Time Charter: Pupils are required to be in full school uniform at all times and are reminded that all top coats
must be navy blue or black, and no informal footwear is permitted. Pupils wearing inappropri- ate or unacceptable items of clothing will be removed from lessons. If you require support in sourcing correct uniform please contact Mrs C Kynaston.
Please be reminded that mobile phones are prohibited and pupils are welcome to use the school phones should they need to contact home.
Clean Air Initiative
Stanwell School is fully committed to raising awareness of environmental issues and is continually seeking to reduce pollution levels in and around the school site. A signifi- cant contributor to the poor air quality around the school is due to vehicle movement before and after the school day, and we are increasingly concerned about the safety of our pupils and ask parents/carers to aid us in improving the situation. The safety of our pupils is of paramount importance and the congestion in the immediate vicinity of the school is a genuine concern. Parents are asked to adhere to the following guidance to improve the situation for pupils and local residents:
Encourage children to walk (at least) some of the journey to and from school;
avoid parking on the junctions, yellow lines and ‘drop-curbs’;
do not leave cars idling and turn off the engine.
wherever possible, arrange to pick up pupils at a venue further away from the school.
It is envisaged such measures would:
reduce traffic congestion around the school
reduce noise and pollution
provide daily walking exercise teach young children vital road safety skills
In addition, parents/carers are asked to ensure that if they collect children from Victo- ria Road they do so in a way that does not prevent the school buses from parking alongside the pavement.
Parents/carers are reminded that pupils are expected to be on school site by 8:30a.m. to ensure lessons begin promptly at 8:35a.m.
It is in all our interests to protect our pupils and I would ask for your co-operation and assistance in this matter.
Yours sincerely
Mr T Brown (Headteacher)
