Margt er líkt í menningarsögu eyjanna, sem hefur þó ekki enn verið rannsakað á fræðilegan hátt, en með því að beita þróunarfræðilegri (evolutionary biology) aðferðafræði við greiningu lagasögu, bendir þetta verkefni á mjög áþreifanleg líkindi í lögum eyjanna á miðöldum. MEXICAN AMERICAN RESOURCE GUIDE: SOURCES OF INFORMATION RELATING TO THE MEXICAN AMERICAN COMMUNITY IN AUSTIN AND TRAVIS COUNTY THE AUSTIN HISTORY CENTER, AUSTIN PUBLIC LIBRARY Updated by Amanda Jasso Mexican American Community Archivist September 2017 Austin History Center- Mexican American Resource Guide – September 2017 1 INTRODUCTION The purpose of the Austin History Center is to provide customers with information about the history and current events of Austin and Travis County by collecting, organizing, and preserving research materials and assisting in their use so that customers can learn from the community’s collective memory. The collections of the AHC contain valuable materials about Austin and Travis County’s Mexican American communities. The materials in the resource guide are arranged by collection unit of the Austin History Center. Within each collection unit, items are arranged in shelf-list order. This guide is one of a series of updates to the original 1977 version compiled by Austin History staff. It reflects the addition of materials to the Austin History Center based on the recommendations and donations of many generous individuals, support groups and Austin History Center staff. The Austin History Center card catalog supplements the Find It: Austin Public Library On-Line Library Catalog by providing analytical entries to information in periodicals and other materials in addition to listing individual items in the collection with entries under author, title, and subject. These tools lead to specific articles and other information in sources that would otherwise be very difficult to find. It must be noted that there are still significant gaps remaining in our collection in regards to the Mexican American community.

The Development of Education and Grammatica in Medieval Iceland By Ryder Patzuk-Russell A Thesis submitted to the University of Birmingham for the degree of Doctor of Medieval History Department of History School of History and Cultures College of Arts and Law University of Birmingham November 2016 University of Birmingham Research Archive e-theses repository This unpublished thesis/dissertation is copyright of the author and/or third parties. Abstract This study explores how education and the medieval intellectual and pedagogical discipline of grammatica developed in Iceland during the medieval period, defined roughly from the official conversion to Christianity c.1000 to the Reformation c.1550. The first chapter deals with social, institutional, and financial aspects of teaching and learning in medieval Iceland, surveying key figures and places, but also arguing that more attention should be paid to the costs of learning and the effect of that on poor students. The second chapter addresses Latin education, discussing the importance of Latinity in medieval Iceland and the types of education that would involve Latin. It also addresses the idea of bilingual education and suggests ways in which extant vernacular writings can provide evidence for how Latin was taught and learned using the vernacular, using the model of Old English bilingual education.

MACIEJ MOTAK∗ ZARYS URBANISTYKI I ARCHITEKTURY REYKIAVÍKU AN OUTLINE OF THE URBANISM AND ARCHITECTURE OF REYKJAVIK Streszczenie Z 310 tysięcy mieszkańców Islandii, 200 tysięcy przypada na zespół miejski Wielkiego Reykiavíku; 65 procent ludności Islandii zamieszkuje jeden procent obszaru kraju. Powolny rozwój miasta przypadł na schyłek XVIII wieku i wiek XIX, natomiast w XX wieku nabrał przyspieszenia (trwającego do dziś) i odzwiercie- dlił kolejne tendencje światowe: koncepcję miasta ogrodu, funkcjonalizm i styl międzynarodowy, fascy- nację komunikacją samochodową, idee rozwoju zrównoważonego, opiekę nad zabytkami. Niezmienna pozostała jej prostota i skromność – w dobrym tych słów znaczeniu. Słowa kluczowe: Reykiavík, Islandia, architektura, urbanistyka, historia Abstract 200,000 out of 310,000 inhabitants of Iceland live in Greater Reykjavik; 65% of Icelanders occupy 1% of the country. Reykjavik also concentrates most works of Icelandic architecture, especially those created between the 18th and 21st centuries. This makes it possible to follow transformations in the urbanism and architecture of Iceland in a small area. Settlement in Reykjavik has proceeded since the 9th century. The city developed slowly at the turn of the 18th century and throughout the 19th century.

To assure that these students received a quality education, a 5-year Plan for Educational Excellence was implemented. The 4th-year results of the plan in each of the schools is summarized in this report. Methodology involved analysis of reports and student test scores and surveys of principals, staff, and parents. Findings indicate that the district provided full-day prekindergarten classes, innovative funds, and extra support staff, and lowered thie pupil/teacher ratio. Test scores showed improvement in priority school students' academic achievement. Other indicators of success included increased teacher attendance, favorable parent and staff attitudes, increased parent and community involvement, and implementation of a multicultural education program. Fifty-two figures are included. Attachments include a school climate/effectiveness survey, school standards reports, priority schools summaries, recommendations for student placement, discipline incidents, Adopt-A-School data, and parent survey results.
