P11 BEST SEAT IN THE HOUSE P15 20TWELVE SEASON PREVIEWS P14 BIG V’S STATE GUNS Everything you need to know about each division for 20Twelve. EDITORIAL The countdown is on for the first tip of the 20Twelve season and excitement is building around the state. Here at Overtime Mag, we are completely on board and have stuffed as much hype building content into this edition that we had to add five bonus pages at no extra cost! (that was a joke, it’s free) You’ll cop a dose of previews for every single division span- ning over 6 pages that’ll provide everything you need to know about the coming year. But what we’re really pumped about is our main feature story this month. We’ve stuck 6 D1M guns on the one cover, 3 from Div 2 in 2011, up against 3 from existing D1M teams, in what is a pretty epic cover. This is going to be big talking point this year and a story that we just couldn’t pass up. Strap yourselves in for this one because this divi- sion is going to be off the charts in terms of talent, rivalries & hype. Our token feel good story of the month is on the rejuvenated Melton Basketball association’s drive to bring home some of their former local boys. They were in no mans land last season but the list consists of a majority of Melton juniors. There’s plenty more where that came from too. It’s going to be a ginormous season and it deserves all the build up, plugging and promotion it can get. Better Believe It. In Good Hands The Newsletter of the Association of June 2003 Massage Therapists (NSW) Ltd Sydney Kings get a helping hand By Rebecca Barnett It’s no secret to basketball fans around the country that the Sydney Kings recently took out their first NBL premiership in the history of the club. However, one of the crucial factors in their form turnaround was a secret weapon – massage therapy. Under the supervision of teacher Diana Glazer, students enrolled at Meadowbank TAFE provided sports massage throughout the Kings historic 2002-2003 season. For six months, they conscientiously attended mid- week training sessions and home games, performing pre and post game massage on the team. It was certainly a marriage made in sporting heaven. International basketball federation Olympic Basketball tournaments history 1 MEN’S OLYMPIC BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS 1.1 1936 Berlin, Germany Gold United States of America Silver Canada Bronze Mexico Officially recognised as an Olympic sport in 1930, basketball made its first appearance on the programme at the Olympic Games in Berlin. Twenty-one countries took part. The games were played in the open on the Reichssportfeld tennis courts. The jump ball at the beginning of the first game between France and Estonia was administered by the father of basketball, the Canadian Dr James Naismith. The United States, having played basketball for so long, had a head start on all their opponents, yet dominated the scores only narrowly: 19-8 against Canada and 25-10 against Mexico, the two other medallists in this first Olympic tournament. The American team, made up of thirteen players, was the one which most often strove to keep control of the ball using sophisticated combinations surprising to European observers. 1.2 1948 London, England Gold United States of America Silver France Bronze Brazil Twenty-three teams were present in London for this tournament, the first after the break imposed by the Second World War. Once again - and it would not be the last time - the players from the United States of America were head and shoulders above their opponents with their giant Bob Kurland (2.14m). Only Argentina managed to resist them (57-59) but then fell victim to their own efforts, finishing in 15th place. The remaining representatives from South America, on the other hand, were more fortunate.
