    Teylingen Van Het Begin Tot Aan De Brand Van 1676

    Teylingen van het begin tot aan de brand van 1676 Aad van der Geest De perikelen van de Tachtigjarige Oorlog, die duurde van 1568 tot 1648, hebben hun sporen, in wat nu de Duin- en Bollenstreek is, behoorlijk nagelaten. De belegeringen van Haarlem (1572- 1573) en Leiden (1573-1574) en het daarmee gepaardgaande geweld onder de burgerbevolking, hakten er diep in. Dit geweld kwam zowel van rondtrekkende Spaanse troepen alsook van de Staatse troepen van Willem van Oranje. Er werd geroofd, geplunderd, verkracht en gemoord. De meeste kerken in de streek op die van Voorhout en Noordwijk na, die wonderwel gespaard bleven, kwamen er al niet veel beter af. Na het ontzet van Leiden op 3 oktober 1574 en het wegtrekken van de gehate Spanjaard, haalde men dan ook opgelucht adem. Slot Teylingen en omgeving, waar tijdens de belegering van Haarlem 4000 man Staatse troepen gelegerd waren, was zwaar gehavend uit de strijd gekomen. Nadat men weer enigszins op adem was gekomen werd aan het einde van de 16de en het begin van de 17de eeuw aan de wederopbouw van ker- ken, kastelen en dorpen begonnen. Slot Teylingen zou daarbij een grandeur bereiken zoals het daarvoor nooit gekend had. Het sprookje zou echter maar kort duren. In een vogelvlucht door de tijd nemen we u mee vanaf de eerste vermelding tot aan de brand van 1676. HET ALLEREERSTE BEGIN niet meer terug. In 1198 krijgen we vaste grond In de zogeheten Goederenlijst van St. Maar- onder de voeten als de vermeende zoon van ten die zijn oorsprong in de 8ste en 9de eeuw Hugo, Willem I van Teylingen, getuige is bij een vindt, komen twee vermeldingen voor met be- oorkonde die is uitgevaardigd door graaf Dirk trekking tot Teylingen.

By 1669, the VOC was the richest private company the world had ever seen. This landmark study looks at perhaps the most important tool in the Company’ trading – its ships. In order to reconstruct the complete shipping activities of the VOC, the author created a unique database of the ships’ movements, including frigates and other, hitherto ignored, smaller vessels. Parthesius’s research into the routes and the types of ships in the service of the VOC proves that it was precisely the wide range of types and sizes of vessels that gave the Company the ability to sail – and continue its profitable trade – the year round. Furthermore, it appears that the VOC commanded at least twice the number of ships than earlier historians have ascertained. Omdat de provincie Zuid-Holland geen provinciale monumentenlijst heeft vraagt de commissie de gemeente Hillegom de paaltjes bescherming te bieden door ze als gemeentelijk monument aan te wijzen.
