TSA broke ground at the Park West Athletics Complex on April 10, 2012, and it officially

opened its new 1,000-seat track & field and soccer facilities on Aug. 16, 2013. The complex Uis a joint-use project made possible through the 2003 Bexar County and 2007 City of bond elections and the 2008 Bexar County Venue Tax election. The facility is located on Kyle

Seale Parkway just inside Loop 1604, and when completed, it also will house facilities for baseball,

softball and tennis, as well as football practice fields.

Roger Soler ne of the most decorated runners in UTSA men’s track & field his- tory, Roger Soler became the first athlete in school annals to com- Opete in the Olympics when he ran in the 1984 Summer Games in Los Angeles, Calif. A native of Peru, Soler was one of only two runners from the South American country to compete, as he ran in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters.

Known for his strong closing kick, he entered the Olympics as the Peru- vian national record holder in 800, 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000 meters. Soler, a veteran of many international competitions during his career, also com- peted in the 1987 Pan American Games for Peru.

Soler set several UTSA records during his three-year career, many of which still stand today. His indoor records of 4:03.84 in the mile (1983) and 8:10.09 in the 5,000 meters (1985) are in their third decade in the record book, as are his outdoor marks of 3:44.25 in the 1,500 meters (1983) and 13:55.1 in the 5k (1985). The 5-foot-8 Soler also became the first Roadrunner to qualify for any form of national competition when he competed at the 1983 NCAA Cross Country Championships.

He came to UTSA from Hancock Junior College in Santa Maria, Calif. Soler won the 1981 state cross country championship and finished sec- ond in the 1,500 and 5,000 meters.

Liza Hunter-Galvan

iza Hunter-Galva has the distinction of competing in a pair of Olym- pic Games, making her the second Roadrunner — and first woman L— in school history to participate. The 1992 Southland Conference Indoor Athlete of the Year ran the marathon at the 2004 Summer Games in Athens, Greece, and again this past summer in Beijing, China, for her native New Zealand.

Hunter-Galvan finished 51st in Athens (2:50:23) and improved 16 spots to 35th (2:34.51) in Beijing.

She was a four-year letterwinner in cross country and track & field at UTSA from 1989-93. The Aukland, New Zealand, native was the South- land Conference Champion in the mile and two-mile runs at the 1992 SLC Indoor, the first year UTSA competed for conference titles in the sport. Hunter-Galvan also helped the two-mile relay to a league crown and was named Outstanding Track Performer and Athlete of the Year after scoring a meet-best 22.5 points.

In cross country, she won the 1992 conference title and was named Ath- lete of the Year after helping the Roadrunners to their second consecutive team championship.
