  • Some Conceptual Underpinnings of Indian Foreign Policy Today
Some conceptual underpinnings of Indian foreign policy today By TCA Raghavan synoptic overview of Indian Foreign Policy from the perspective of early A2019 throws up some broad concep- tual themes: neighborhood first; balancing the continental and the maritime; balancing regional and extra regional powers; consol- idating a favorable external environment for domestic economic growth and safeguard- ing national security. This cocktail of priori- ties is not substantively new in themselves but each of its themes constantly acquires new characteristics. The recent context to our neighborhood policy comes from an energized electoral cycle. In South Asia a principal axis of change over the past two years was elec- tions. Elections led to new governments in Nepal in Nov-Dec 2017, Pakistan (July, 2018), Maldives (September, 2018) and Bhutan (October, 2018). Varun plays a tailor in the film and Anushka an embroiderer. Together, their characters celebrate Indian craftsmanship that is famous across the world. It couldn’t be a more fitting day to start the promotions for this film. “We consciously wanted our campaign to roll out on August 7, National Handloom Day. Our film Sui Dhaaga is a salute to the bold entrepreneurs and the self-reliant work-force of the country - artisans, craftsmen, weavers and the grassroots level contributors to the surging India’s indigenous arts and crafts industry. We have thus decided to launch it’s campaign on a day dedicated to the skilled entrepreneurs of our country,” says producer Maneesh Sharma. Central Government of India had declared August 7 to be celebrated as National Handloom Day every year due to its significance in India's history. The Swadeshi Movement was launched in 1905 on the same day. The movement saw the revival of domestic entrepreneurship. “Varun and Anushka will start touring the country from this date. We will release the first asset of the marketing campaign but it’s not the trailer. The trailer will come a week after. Varun-Anushka lived in guesthouses for Sui Dhaaga By : INVC Team Published On : 5 Sep, 2018 02:01 AM IST INVC NEWS Mumbai , Anushka Sharma and Varun Dhawan have given it all for Sui Dhaaga – Made in India. The superstars play innocent village folk Mauji and Mamta living in heartland India and it was essential for both these actors to travel to some remote areas to bring authenticity of look and feel to the film. Small towns do not have swanky hotels and as soon as Varun and Anushka were made aware of the situation, they were more than happy to live in the accommodation available in small towns – small guest houses. “We wanted to make a film that looks as authentic as possible and we went to shoot in really interesting locations. The trailer of the film is getting so much love because Sharat (Katariya) and Maneesh (Sharma) have ensured that we make a genuine film that touches people’s hearts. From day one we are on board to shoot in these locations that are gorgeous and beautiful and add so much purity to the narrative,” says Anushka. Varun adds, “For us, making this film as genuinely, as authentically as possible was more important than where we were staying. We lived extremely comfortably and we blended with the milieu of the location and became the characters that we were playing. We had a great time living in these towns and making so many new friends. The locals were lovely. They showered so much love and affection and care. For us, it is a film whose memory will be always treasured.” While Anushka plays an embroiderer in YRF's entertainer Sui Dhaaga – Made in India, Varun plays a small town tailor.
