Georgia Tech Basketball 2012-13 GGEORGIAEORGIA TTECHECH BBASKETBALLASKETBALL 2012-132012-13 Tech Makes Progress in Year 2 Under Brian Gregory Georgia Tech, despite consecutive losses to end the season, made considerable progress under head coach Brian Gregory in his second year at the helm, improving its overall record by fi ve games, winning two more games in the Atlantic Coast Conference and improving its fi nish and tournament seed by two positions. Out of its 15 losses, only three came to teams that fi nished the season below the Yellow Jackets in the RPI, and fi ve were by fi ve points or fewer. Tech also improved statistically on both ends of the court, Along the way were several big wins, including a 65-56 win over Saint Mary’s during the non-confer- ence season, a win over state-rival Georgia for the second straight year, the fi rst time that had happened since the early 1990s, and three road wins in the ACC, including a 71-69 victory over the regular-season and tournament champion Miami Hurricanes. Tech also scored home victories over two NIT teams, Mary- land and Virginia. Final Buzzer • For the 2013-14 season, Tech will welcome back four of the fi ve players who started the fi nal 16 Final games of the season - Chris Bolden, Robert Carter, Jr., Marcus Georges-Hunt and Daniel Miller. Carter, Jr., GEORGIA TECH YELLOW JACKETS and Miller started all 31 games, while Georges-Hunt started all but one game. Tech’s top returning bench (16-15, 6-12 ACC) VS. players, Kammeon Holsey and Brandon Reed, have 86 career starts at Tech between them. Georgia Tech Record Breakdown: • Tech’s returning players for 2013-14 combined for 84.6 percent of the Yellow Jackets’ scoring in 11-6 home, 3-7 road, 2-2 neutral 2012-13, 88.3 percent of the rebounds and 80.1 percent of the minutes. 2012-13 RPI rank (strength of schedule): • Georgia Tech’s No. 9 seed for the ACC Tournament was its highest since the 2009-10 season, when CBS - #149 (112) the Yellow Jackets fi nished 7th (7-9 record) and advanced to the fi nals (also in Greensboro). Sagarin - #97 (96) • Boston College was the last member of the ACC that Tech had not faced in ACC Tournament com- Realtime - #135 (116) petition. The Jackets scratched Miami off the have-not-played list in 2012 at Philips Arena. Kenpom - #94 (103) • For the third time, Tech’s fi rst-round game was a rematch of its fi nal ACC regular-season contest. WarrenNolan - #153 (121) The last time was 1986, when the Yellow Jackets fi nished the regular-season against Clemson and then Georgia Tech Coach Brian Gregory (Oakland, 1990): played the Tigers again in Greensboro on the way to a runner-up fi nish. It also happened in 1982, when • 27-35 in two seasons at Tech Tech completed its regular season schedule at North Carolina and then met the Tar Heels in the fi rst round • 199-129 in 10 seasons overall of the tournament in Greensboro.
