VOLLEYBALL TRAVELS ACROSS THE NATION FOR THIRD WEEK OF PLAY

All but one of the 12 Conference teams hit the road for tournament action, as the Pac-12 volleyball season continues its non-conference schedule. Only CALIFOR- NIA remains on their home court as the other squads are spread across the nation, with ARIZONA traveling to the Hawai’i Tournament and STANFORD represent- ing on the East Coast as it competes in Washington, D.C. ... Six Pac-12 teams remain undefeated with UTAH and WASHINGTON STATE holding a 7-0 record. ARIZONA STATE and USC are 6-0, and CALIFORNIA and WASHINGTON are 5-0 and 4-0, respectively ... Six Conference teams were ranked in this week’s AVCA top-25 poll. The Trojans are the No. 1 team in the nation, followed by the Huskies at sixth, the Cardinal at 8th, UCLA at 11th, and OREGON at 20th. California broke into the rankings, placing 23rd after a weekend that saw three-consecutive sweeps, including a straight-set victory over then-ranked No. 19 Creighton. The Pac-12 has had at least five teams ranked in the top 25 for 177-consecutive weeks ... The week features contests against six ranked teams for the league. Arizona State will face No. 2 Texas in the Illini Classic, their highest-ranked opponent so far this season ... ASU’s Macey Gardner, UW’s Jenna Orlandini and WSU’s Kyra Holt all earned Pac-12 Player of the Week honors. Gardner was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Orlandini took home Defensive Player of the Week honors and Holt was tabbed for Freshman of the Week.

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- In a polling of the Conference’s 12 women’s volleyball coaches, STANFORD was voted the preseason favorite to win the 2013 Pac-12 regular season, the Conference office announced to- day. The defending Pac-12 Champion Cardinal received 120 points and 10 first-place votes. COLORADO was voted to finish 10th in the Pac-12 standings in 2013 (30), while WASHINGTON STATE was 11th in the polling (21) and OREGON STATE was 12th (19). The preseason coaches poll has been administered every year since the first season of Pac-12 wom- en’s volleyball in 1986. It has predicted the regular-season champion correctly 17 times in 27 years. Pac-12 teams have traditionally been among the best in the nation. In 2012, six teams were ranked in the top 25 in the nation at some point during the season, with five spending most of the year in the top 10, including two teams earning No. 1 rankings for several weeks. In addition, seven teams earned NCAA Tournament bids in 2012, with the Ducks advancing to the national championship match for the first time in the history of the program.

PAC-12 WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL WEEKLY RELEASE // September 9, 2013 5 Pac-12 Volleyball Television Schedule Pac-12 volleyball teams will see an unprecedented amount of television coverage for the second-straight season as the Pac-12 Networks enters its second season. In 2013, 90 matches are scheduled to be broadcast live on the Conference’s Networks, eight more than last season. In addition, ESPN selected three matches to be televised on ESPNU. In addition, authenticated Dish Network and cable subscribers can watch all matches televised on the Pac-12 Networks online at www.pac-12.com and on the Pac-12 Now app. Teams that make the postseason will also have the opportunity to have televised matches. ESPN has broadcast the regional semifinals on ESPN3. com, and the regional finals on ESPNU. The national championship matches are slated to be televised on ESPN2 on Dec. 19 and 21 from Seatte where the University of Washington will play host to the NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship semifinals and championship matches. With the launch of the Pac-12 Networks last season visibility and exposure for league teams across all sports increased exponentially. Pac-12 vol- leyball teams, alone, saw a 272 percent jump in television appearances, going from 22 televised matches to 82. Check your local listings for channels.
