The project is supported by India Literacy Project, USA. The following activities were carried out under the project during the reporting period. Refresher Training to Anganwadi Workers Refresher Training to the 1st batch of Anganwadi Workers was organized on 25th July 2018 in Nagamangalam and on 16th October 2018 in Thally for 2nd batch. During the training Ms. Alamealu, Ms. Mala, Senior Anganwadi Workers & Mr. K. Loganathan, Project Manager facilitated the sessions. The workers were oriented on the Assessment of Activity, Preparation of Low cost learning materials, Child development assessment and proper maintenance of records. 24 workers from Kelamangalam block and 26 workers from Thally Block participated in the training. School Libraries 8 school libraries were set up in the previous years. 2 more school libraries were established in the current year in GHS, Pathakotta and GHS, Devasanapalli, Shoolagiri Block. The students have been provided with the membership cards. The reading assessment was carried out in the old 8 schools during the months of August & September 2018 and 2nd assessment was carried out in 10 schools during the months of February and March 2019. 4 Multi - Dimensional Learning Space Inauguration of 2 centers of Multi – Dimensional Learning Space (MDLS) was held on 30th August 2018 at GHSS Haleseebam, Shoolagiri Block & GHS, D. Kothanur, Thally Block. The District Education Officer, Hosur Education District Mr. Subramani, The District Education Officer, Thally Education District Mr. C. Sekar were the Chief Guests. Mr. Subramani appreciated and thanked ILP and ARCOD for the efforts towards development of Children in rural areas. Mr. C. Sekar requested the students to utilize the golden opportunity offered by ARCOD and ILP and perform better in the academics. Mr. A. L. Rangarajan, Country Manager, ILP & Mr. V.R. Keshavraj, Executive Director, ARCOD addressed the gathering. Mr. Sathish, BEO, Shoolgiri, APO Hosur, BRT Thally and Childline Co-ordinator were present. While addressing the gathering, the HMs of the school expressed their happiness and thanked ARCOD and ILP for having chosen their school to establish the center and assured of their cooperation in implementing the program successfully. Learning Level Assessments (LLA) Learning Learning Level Assessments were conducted in all 16 MDLS schools during the month of July 2018. The assessment was done for the students studying from 3rd to 9th standard for all 5 subjects. 2587 out of 2853 students participated in these assessments. 2nd round of assessments were carried out in the month of March 2019 in which 2504 students participated. This assessment was also carried out in the remaining 59 schools during the month of March 2019 for the students studying 3rd to 8th standard for all 5 subjects. 2575 out of 2877 students participated in the assessments. 5 Life Skills Education 64 Life skills sessions were organized during the year for the students studying 7th to 9th standards in regular classes in 16 MDLS schools. 1820 out of 2199 students attended these sessions in the 1st round. 50 sessions were organized in the 2nd round. 1286 out of 2199 students attended in the 2nd round. Peer leaders were identified and trained on life skills. These peer leaders were utilized as resources in the succeeding sessions. The following topics were taught during the session through group discussion, games, and lecture. Understanding Self and others Control of emotions Positive development Life skills - based education (Goal setting, hand crafts and decision making) Self-awareness Empathy Interpersonal Relationship Career Guidance and Counseling Sessions Guidance and counseling sessions were organized in the following schools during the months of May and June 2018 after the publication of results of 10th and 12th Standards. The members of staff team met students and parents during their visit to schools to collect their mark sheets. The following details were shared with them during the session: Comparison of Courses and colleges Scope for employability after completion of course List of courses available List of colleges 6 Fee structure Availability of scholarship Transport facilities Hostel facilities The staff used career guidance charts, CSM Mobile Application and career book for the purpose. It was disappointing to note that many students were not enthusiastic in collecting their mark sheets. 23 Career Guidance and Counseling sessions were organized in regular classes in the 1st round during the period from October to December 2018. 996 students from 9th to 12th standards attended these sessions. In the 2nd round 29 sessions were organized during the period from January to March 2019 in which 885 students attended. The staff team facilitated the sessions for guiding the students on career opportunities after completing 10th and 12th standard. During the sessions the facilitators explained the different opportunities available for the students in the present context after completing 10th and 12th standards. The 10th and 12th standard students were able to find their mental flow through the choices of psychometric test (Holland code) conducted by the facilitators. Mega size Career Guidance Chart is displayed in 12 schools. Live Science Experiments Basic science experiment kits were distributed to 6 MDLS schools in the current year. These kits were utilized by the staff during their visit to schools to demonstrate live science experiments. 57 such sessions were organized during the reporting period for 1962 students studying in 6th to 9th standard in 16 schools. 7 Science Exhibitions School level Science Exhibitions were organized in 15 schools during the months of February and March 2019. 1524 students from 6th to 9th standards from these schools prepared their presentations on science and showed during the exhibition. This has facilitated the students to show their understanding in science. The experiments through the science kits helped the students in developing their creativity. The teachers, HMs and peers of students appreciated. ILP team along with the HMs and teachers felicitated the students and honored them with 253 prizes. Review of Scholars The review meeting for scholars held at Denkanikottai on July 22, 2018. 8 out of 9 scholars attended the meeting. Mr. Ravi, ILP, Bangalore and Mr. Suriyan, ILP, Chennai explained different aspects of Goal Setting, Emotion Control and self-realization. They also reviewed the academic performance of the scholars. Distribution of Scholarship 30 applications were collected for scholarship support for the year 2018-19. Those applications were examined by ARCOD and 12 applications were selected for support based on the documents and home visits. Cheques to these 12 students and 8 old scholars were distributed by the board members of ARCOD during the month of September 2018. 8 CHILDREN OF KRISHNAGIRI This initiative is to support the children infected by HIV / AIDs in Krishangiri and Dharmapuri Districts. Individual sponsors are supporting the initiative. Exposure Trip – Camp Rainbow The camp rainbow was organized by YRG Care, Chennai during the month of 2nd to 6th May 2018. 34 Children were selected from Krishnagiri to attend the camp. The camp held for 5 days in Paramankeni Resort, Kalpakkam. The camp was fully sponsored by YRG Care. Distribution of Nutrition Kits The infected children need a balanced nutritious food. Nutritious Kits were distributed to the children for all the 12 months. The kit contained Jaggery, green gram, Soya Beans, Health Mix, Fried Gram, Black Chenna, Karamani, Dates and ground nut. Apart from the nutrition packets the kit also included toothpaste, hair oil, soap and shampoo packets. This has helped to ensure gradual development in the health of children and increase in the count of CD4. Deepavali Celebration The 9th Deepavali Celebration was organized for the Children of Krishnagiri on 4th November 2018. About 250 children with their parents and care givers gathered for the celebration at Meenakshi Mahal, Krishnagiri. The children enjoyed the varieties of cultural programs performed by the indigenous artists. Children also performed in the event. The children were distributed with dresses, sweet boxes and other eatables. This year the children decided not to use crackers. Hence the crackers box was removed from the gift items.
