With its amalgam of rich history and pulsating modernity, Macau has captured the Indian travellers’ imagination, and is fast on its way to becoming a prime destination for Indian tourists. This is your opportunity to explore a vibrant destination and promote it to your Ajay Prakash A man for all seasons clients. Macau today, in many ways, also exemplifi es our Convention theme: “Addressing Change – Reposition, Rebrand, Reinvent.” Change is the only constant, and the only way to keep our heads above water is to keep moving with the times – standing still is not an option; you either move forward, or get left behind. Who remembers that miracle of modern communication anymore – the pager? Smart phones threaten to make even the ubiquitous desktop computer a fossil. Can we afford to cling persistently to the past? We need to Rebrand ourselves as tourism professionals and travel planners. We need to Reposition ourselves as qualifi ed experts, offering relevant advice to a savvy traveling public. We need to Reinvent our business models to tap multiple revenue streams, instead of relying merely on airline commissions. We need to Change the way we do business, if we are to remain relevant and attract younger talent to this business, which accounts for approximately 6% of global GDP. As the premier association in the country, TAFI is committed to facilitating this transformation amongst our members. The fi rst evidence of this metamorphosis is the composition of the Core Committee of this year’s Convention – with woman power steering the conceptualization and execution of TAFI Annual Convention 2011. Instead of the traditional Convention Chair, we have four dynamic Co-Chairpersons who have organized this exciting Convention. Chitra Bhatia, Rani Bachani, Aditi Bhende and Vasuki Sundaram are well known to many of you. Each of them have dedicated years to TAFI, and burnt the midnight oil to make TAFI Annual Convention 2011 truly memorable. Let us salute them for their dedication and their enterprise and make the most of all that is on offer at this year’s Convention. The Business Sessions are the heart of every TAFI Convention, and this year too, we have a galaxy of Indian and International speakers, who will propose new ideas, new direction and new strategies to help refocus our energies. Attendance at these Business Sessions is mandatory for all participating members, and like last year, will also be rewarding in more ways than one – there are exciting prizes and gifts for those attending! The Venetian Macau is a great hotel and a fun destination in itself. We thank them for their support and their sponsorship. Get set for some great partying and intense gaming! May lady luck smile on you. We also thank all our supporters and sponsors, chief among them being the MGTO who have gone out of their way to make TAFI Annual Convention 2011 a reality in Macau. And fi nally, all of us on the Managing Committee and Chapter Committees must thank all of you, our members, who drive us to strive harder and reach higher. Wishing you all a great Convention and good luck in the year ahead. Do remember that we make our own luck too. JUNE / JULY 2016 Italian passion AMERICAN WAGYU SPANISH VIBES PIZZA INNOVATION COFFEE, TEA & WINE EDITOR'S MESSAGE In pursuit of the good life When Italians celebrate their national day in June, they also make sure that the rest of the world joins them in the festivity with their wholesome food and elegant wines. In this issue of Food & Wine, we have assembled a host of Italian restaurants and featured their creative cuisines that come from the heart. We also talked to the chefs to understand their culinary concepts and share their passion and flair for food. If there is one thing I’ve learned from attending Italian feasts, it’s their dedication to the Slow Food Movement, so make sure you allow for a copious amount of time – like three hours. A meal is to be savored slowly, not rushed. And go easy on the bread and the pasta, yummy as they are, because there are many more dishes to follow in the fullness of time. In between the numerous courses, you enjoy the conviviality, of course. And you talk about soccer, food and politics, if you’re an Italian, that is. We’ve just had Le French GourMay and Vinexpo in town in the last quarter, so a lot of the emphasis has been on wine lately. While we have been studying the pairing of wine with food, the latest movement is to compare the many commonalities between wine on the one hand, and a piping hot brew of Chinese tea, and of premium coffee on the other. We will leave no kettles unturned in the pursuit of savoir-faire! Andy Ng Features Editor FOOD & WINE • JUNE / JULY 2016 1 FOOD & WINE JUNE /

Taipa Village offers escape from glitz and glamour of Cotai Strip Diverse cuisines abound from traditional Chinese to cutting-edge Portuguese, Spanish and Macanese PUBLISHED : Monday, 12 June, 2017, 9:58am UPDATED : Monday, 12 June, 2017, 9:58am Galaxy Macau resort towers over Taipa Village in a juxtaposition of modernity and tradition. David Vetter Macau is much more than the sum of its modern attractions and glitzy hotels: the centre of old Macau abounds with the architecture and character of a bygone era – a time when two vastly different cultures merged. The former Portuguese enclave once consisted of the Macau Peninsula and Taipa and Coloane islands – the latter two have since become one through reclamation work that created the Cotai Strip, Macau’s answer to Las Vegas. The original Taipa Village has been well preserved, and it offers visitors a contrast to the glitz and glamour of the Cotai Strip. While the towering Galaxy Macau resort might seem a world away from the tree-lined Avenida da Praia, it neighbours Taipa Village in a juxtaposition of modernity and tradition. Taipa Village has established itself as an important gastronomic centre along with its cultural and scenic pleasures. The village is home to more than 20 eateries of diverse cuisines – from traditional Chinese fare to cutting-edge Portuguese and Spanish offerings and, of course, Macanese food. King’s Lobster restaurant is famous for its fresh lobster served in a soft bun. Among the recent arrivals is King’s Lobster restaurant whose signature dish is a mouth-watering fresh lobster served in a soft bun.

  • Looking Into Nostalgia and the Boca Doce Brand in Online Communicatons: a Netnographic Exploration of a Portuguese Instant Dessert
International Journal of Marketing, CommunicationPedro Oliveira and New Media ISSN: 2182-9306. Special Number 2 – MDB, OCTOBER 2017 Research Paper Looking into nostalgia and the Boca Doce brand in online communicatons: a netnographic exploration of a Portuguese instant dessert. Pedro Oliveira * ABSTRACT As in many other geographies, in the Portuguese context, especially in academic literature, qualitative methods in marketing research are clearly under-represented when compared with quantitative methods. This happens all the more as qualitative methods are used in isolation over mixed-methods approaches. It follows that in the Portuguese context, netnography, the ethnographic/qualitative study of social networks conceptualized and developed by Robert Kozinets (e.g. Kozinets, 2002, 2009, 2015) remains largely unused. The following research is a first attempt at bringing netnography to the Portuguese context by studying online communication around one of its most popular dessert brands, Boca Doce, an instant dessert produced by Kraft foods and distributed in Portugal by the AMD company. Netnography is herewith used as a qualitative method in isolation while the structure of the study follows other netnographic research examples, such as the study of Listerine (Kozinets, 2010) or Nutella (Cova & Pace, 2006). Results point to two major themes in online communication around the brand: emotions and feelings about Boca Doce (generally coupled with feelings of nostalgia) versus consumer-driven innovations. Some final considerations are given to possibilities of brand innovation that can unfold when cultural and netnographic views are brought into play. Keywords: netnography; instant dessert; cultural strategy. * Brunel University, London. E-Mail: [email protected] 48 International Journal of Marketing, Communication and New Media.
