SIC Prend D'assaut Rio : 158 Athlètes Liés Au SIC Participeront Aux Jeux Olympiques De 2016 SIC prend d’assaut Rio : 158 athlètes liés au SIC participeront aux Jeux olympiques de 2016 3 août 2016 TORONTO (SIC) – Sport interuniversitaire canadien a annoncé mercredi que 158 athlètes associés aux établissements membres de SIC représenteront le Canada aux Jeux olympiques de 2016 à Rio. Le contingent de SIC, qui représente plus de la moitié des 314 athlètes de l’Équipe olympique canadienne 2016, comprend 81 étudiants-athlètes actuels, futurs ou anciens, et 77 athlètes qui ont soit concouru dans des sports non inscrits au programme de SIC soit étudié au sein d’établissements affiliés à SIC. « Nous sommes très fiers de tous les athlètes en compétition aux Jeux olympiques de 2016 à Rio qui entretiennent des liens avec le sport universitaire au Canada », a déclaré Graham Brown, président-directeur général de SIC. « Chacun d’eux symbolise le dévouement et la passion des étudiants-athlètes de tout le pays, et nous leur souhaitons bonne chance, alors qu’ils s’efforceront de gagner l’or à Rio. » Kylie Masse (LaSalle, Ont.), lauréate du prix BLG 2016 en qualité d’athlète féminine de l’année de SIC, fait partie des sept étudiants-athlètes actuels ou futurs de SIC qui concourront à Rio cet été. Masse, une nageuse qui se prépare à entamer sa troisième année d’étude à l’Université de Toronto, a représenté le Canada aux Universiades d’été de 2015 et est la détentrice du record canadien au 100 mètres dos. Aux Jeux olympiques d’été, Masse sera accompagnée de sa coéquipière du Varsity Blue Gabriela Stafford (Toronto, Ont.), qui concourt en athlétisme, de la membre de l’équipe d’athlétisme des Lions de York, Brittany Crew (East York, Ont.), des nageurs Erika Seltenreich- Hodgson(Ottawa, Ont.), Emily Overholt (West Vancouver, C.B.) et Markus Thormeyer (Tsawwassen, C.B.) de l’Université de Colombie-Britannique, ainsi que d’Evan Van Moerkerke (Tillsonburg, Ont.) de l’Université de Guelph. Overholt et Thormeyer, deux recrues de l’UCB, se sont engagés à se joindre au programme de natation des Thunderbirds à partir de l’automne. L’Équipe olympique canadienne est appuyée par 22 entraîneurs et membres du personnel de soutien actuels et anciens des sports officiels de SIC. Lisa Thomaidis (Saskatoon, Sask.), entraîneure-chef de l’équipe féminine de basketball championne en titre de SIC, les Huskies de la Saskatchewan, mènera l’équipe olympique canadienne féminine de basketball. Thomaidis a récolté deux médailles d’or l’été passé avec Équipe Canada aux Jeux panaméricains de 2015 à Toronto et au Championnat des Amériques de la FIBA. Since 2008 when the Council of Richmond appointed the Board to oversee a legacy operation that is efficiently run, financially viable and not a burden to taxpayers, the Oval revenues have been on an upward financial trajectory with the 2015 performance continuing that trend. In 2015 we continued to work closely and collaboratively with our stakeholders and sport groups to enhance our programs and services, to strengthen our membership base and to expand our reach through diversification of our offerings. It is gratifying to see continued growth in these areas.
