Be smart about your training. Always train with this question in the back of your mind. “How is what I’m doing today and right now going to help me when I’m in that big competition?” Learn more: Prepare the Child for the Road, Not the Road for the Child By Kari Kampakis, Writer Blog, July 2015 Years ago, my friend’s daughter really wanted to be chosen as “Swimmer of the Week” at their country club. It’s an honor bestowed weekly to one child per age group in the summer. Parents will sometimes call the club to request that their child be picked. But my friend didn’t want to do that. She wanted her daughter to win the award through hard work and perseverance. So she told her child, “When you get this award, you’ll know you earned it. You’ll know I didn’t have anything to do with it.” It took her daughter 2 SUMMERS to be named “Swimmer of the Week.” As you’d imagine, she was so proud of herself when her efforts finally paid off. But the biggest surprise came at the summer’s end, when her daughter received the Coach’s Award at the banquet. This award is based on hard work, attitude, and performance. Come learn from some of our country's best coaches and athletes! Great Teams vs. Destructive Teams By Coaches Tool Box.net, August 2015 Great Teams “Prepare for every game/meet/match like you just lost your last game.” There is a difference between readiness and preparation; readiness doesn’t get it done. You must prepare – Marine boot camp philosophy “Treat people nice, even when they don’t deserve it.” Have Positive Captains Learn more: Everyday Leadership Starts With 'Hello' By Michael Maslansky and Lee Carter, Partners, Maslansky + partners, Entreprenuer.com, June 02, 2015 Hello. It's Monday morning. I walked into the office after an early meeting. My team was already at work and I felt like I was already running behind schedule. Typing emails as I walked, I went my desk. Computer on, I started staring at a bigger screen instead. To me, it was no big deal. I had things to do. Work to focus on. I wasn't making a statement. I was just trying to get from the door to my desk. I didn't think anyone was even paying attention. Learn more: The 3 Biggest Lies About Working With Teenagers By John Felkins Entreleadership.com, July 24, 2015 As the Director of Entre Leadership Coaching and Community, I spend a lot of time reading the latest news, blog posts, books and articles on leadership and business. I love this part of my job because I’m always learning something new. But lately, I’ve noticed a trend that’s disturbing. Actually, to tell you the truth, I get fired up every time I spot it. It seems the sport of the day is to bash teenage workers. You know—those skinny-jean- wearing, text-crazy, video-game-loving messes who will do nothing but demand your total attention, ask for undeserved salaries, and bring all our businesses down? They are truly the entitlement generation. Really? Since nearly the beginning of time, people have been complaining about youths. Even Socrates and Plato bashed the kids of their day. But here’s the truth: Every generation is filled with an amazing assortment of personalities. There will always be go-getters, hard workers and just plain pleasant kids to hire. And yes, there will be a few who will never amount to much and who feel the world owes them a living. But there are plenty of young people out there who can help your business grow. Just ask Dan Cathy. You might have heard of him. He and his late father, Truett, built a multi-billion-dollar business selling chicken sandwiches. Chick-fil-A’s thousands of workers are largely all under 19 years old.
