Still Rings Handstand Development Page 1 of 3
USA Gymnastics Online: Technique: Still Rings Handstand Development Page 1 of 3 Still Rings Handstand Development By Kelly Crumley The handstand on rings is a bit more complicated than a handstand on floor or parallel bars simply because the rings move and the other pieces of equipment do not! There are literally hundreds of drills and exercises that can be done to develop the handstand. The handstand is a never-ending area of refinement. The better the handstand is, the better the gymnast will be. There are two main objectives in which to focus when developing the handstand: Strength and Balance. Both of these are addressed below. The Handstand Position The handstand must first be developed on floor and then later applied to rings. The desired position as it applies to floor is as follows: The hands should be placed on the floor shoulder width apart with the middle finger perpendicular with an imaginary line drawn between them. The fingers should be spread in order to help produce a wide base of support. Weight should be dispersed to the finger tips. The body should not be entirely supported on the palms of the hand. Balance is controlled at the finger tips. The elbows are locked and turned so that the inside of the elbow faces straight forward. The head is positioned neutral with ears between the arms. There should be equal parts of the head on both sides of the arm so that the line of the arms, bisect the head equally when viewing from the side. The eyes are focused on the floor between the hands. -

Eight New Elements Named, Added to the Men's Gymnastics Code Of
Eight new elements named, added to the Men’s Gymnastics Code of Points 04/04/2017 It is a way of achieving immortality in Gymnastics: the gymnast who has an original skill named after them in the Code of Points assures that his or her name will live on in the sport, years after they have taken their final bows on the international stage. This week, the FIG Men’s Technical Committee approved eight new elements to be named for the gymnasts who performed them. All were done successfully at World Cup events in late 2016 and early 2017, and will be published in the Men’s Code of Points. They are as follows: Name awarded: The Shirai 3 Performed by: Kenzo Shirai, Japan Apparatus: Vault Element description: Scherbo with a double twist. Element value: 5.4 Performed at: 2017 Melbourne World Cup Note: The innovative Shirai is also a record-holder: the 20-year-old now has six elements named after him in the Code of Points, the most of any male gymnast. The Shirai 3 vault is a more difficult variation of a vault once performed by six-time Olympic gold medallist Vitali Scherbo (URS/EUN). The Shirai 3 vault. All drawings by Koichi Endo. Name awarded: The Goshima Performed by: Takahiro Goshima, Japan Apparatus: Floor Exercise Element description: Salto forward stretched with 3.5 twists. Element value: G Performed at: 2017 DTB-Pokal Team Challenge Note: Goshima, a newcomer to senior international competition on the Japanese team, is the latest in a long line of Japanese gymnasts to have an element named for them. -
1298 Kinematic Analysis of Basket with 5/4 Turn To
33rd International Conference on Biomechanics in Sports, Poitiers, France, June 29 - July 3, 2015 Floren Colloud, Mathieu Domalain & Tony Monnet (Editors) Coaching and Sports Activities KINEMATIC ANALYSIS OF BASKET WITH 5/4 TURN TO HANDSTAND OF SHIXIONG ZHOU ON PARALLEL BARS Wei Xie, Jihe Zhou, Shuai Wang Chengdu Sport University, Chengdu, China The basket with 5/4 turn to handstand on parallel bars is a representative movement of E group; in 1896 it is listed as the Olympic Games project. The parallel bars have been one of the Chinese men's gymnastics advantage projects since 1980s. From 1980 to 2011, China's elite athletes Li Yuejiu, Lou Yun, Li Jing, Huang Liping, Zhang Jingjin, Li Xiaopeng and Yang Wei won more than a dozen times world champion on the parallel bars in the world gymnastics competitions. China's athletes can keep long-term advantage of this project status and competitive strength, in addition to keep pace with the times innovation of difficult moves, there is another important reason is to continuously improve the leading trend of action quality. KEY WORDS: Kinematic analysis, Shixiong Zhou, parallel bars. INTRODUCTION: At present, only Chinese gymnast ShiXiong Zhou can complete this action in the world, in the final of the 2012 national gymnastics championships in the parallel bars, ShiXiong Zhou failed to complete the action very well. Therefore, in order to improve the quality of this action, it’s necessary to analyze the action from both qualitative and quantitative aspects. We made a 3D camera resolution on ShiXiong Zhou at the game site, with the three-dimensional analysis we gained the kinematic parameters. Thus to analyze the reasons of errors, which provides theoretical and technical basis for the development and improvement of Chinese athletes. -
