It provides integrated support for the following: I. Local government institutions (RC, 3 HDC, 3 Circle Offices, 25 Upazila and 111 Unions), traditional institutions, civil society and community counterparts for capacity development. II. Marginalized and vulnerable groups, including gender based and small ethnic minority groups for economic empowerment and capacity building. The project enhances capability of the communities and the government agencies to deliver services and implement development actions. More than 3,200 PDCs and 1,000 PNDGs developed by CHTDF are to be made as the foundation stones of a rejuvenated government led bottom up planning process, and with sufficient funding/grants to make significant inroads into local MDG indicators. 5 Executive Summary A Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Peace Accord signed in December 1997 ended the decades-long insurgency, allowing for the recognition of the rights of the peoples and tribes of the Chittagong Hill Tracts region which is home to both 11 distinctive indigenous groups and Bengalis. Since 2006 Bangladeshi news organizations have been reshaping their strategy towards being a digital-only news outlet. News organizations are now using different features of mobile devices and social media to tell stories and engage with their target audiences. Today both the digital-only news outlets and mainstream media use QR codes, messengers, social media platforms, which enable them to reach a wider area of audiences. By using yet inexpensive digital tools journalists can easily create and distribute content for digital-only platforms. We consider digital-only platforms as new media, social media, and convergence media platforms. Social media platforms have provided the opportunity for traditional journalists to share news quickly, get feedback from the audience, and have two-way communication with the reader. Previous studies have looked at the genres of online journalism from a western perspective. Little has been done on the topic from the context of Bangladesh. In this article, we analyze the basic features of online news media that exist in contemporary Bangladesh and provide an ac- count of the development trends.

August, 2014 External Review – IUCN Ecosystems for Life: a Bangladesh – India Initiative August 2014 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Ecosystems for Life: A Bangladesh – India Initiative (Dialogue for Sustainable Management of Trans-boundary Water Regimes in South Asia) is an attempt to develop a neutral platform among key elements of civil society for discussing the management of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna (GBM) rivers shared by both countries. The Ecosystems For Life (E4L) Project commenced in 2010, and received its entire USD 6.4 million budget from The Minister for Development Cooperation of the Netherlands. The project was scheduled initially to run from February 1, 2010 until July 31, 2014; however, in November 2013, the project requested and was granted a five months extension to December 31, 2014. Through IUCN- facilitated collaborative deliberations, the PAC chose to focus on five major thematic areas: food security, water productivity and poverty; impacts of climate change; environmental security; trans-boundary inland navigation; and biodiversity conservation. The E4L project used four tools to achieve its goal and objectives: creation of formal dialogue opportunities; facilitating joint research; development of a shared knowledge base on water related resources; and capacity-building through training, exposure visits, communication, publications and dissemination. The external review process engaged a three-person team of independent consultants who had no prior direct or indirect involvement with E4L. The review process involved a combination of interviews with E4L project staff and E4L participants in both Bangladesh and India , as well as review of the project documentation.

The dissertation dissects the ownership structure and politics of licensing private television channels by successive governments between 1995 and 2017. It surveys the trends in the commercialization of television news to assess the symbolic and economic influence of advertising on journalism. It argues that the politically concentrated ownership of television and the practices of market-oriented television journalism in Bangladesh are symbiotically embedded with the political and social transformation of the nation-state, a postcolonial quest for nation-building, as well as an asymmetrical integration with the processes of neoliberal globalization. The analysis draws insights from critical and transcultural approaches to political economy of communication.
