For the second consecutive year, Saint Joseph’s will participate in a high level tournament held in a trop‐ ical setting. Following last year’s appearance in the EA Sports Maui Invitational, the Hawks will play in the 2009 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam, held in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Beginning in 2000, many of the nation’s finest men’s and women’s teams have converged on St. Thomas to gain excellent early season compe‐ tition in an exotic island setting. Since 2001, the tournament has been played at the 4,000‐seat UVI Sports and Fitness Center. The first year of the tournament was played at Ivanna Eudora Kean High School, in anticipation of the completion of the state‐of‐the‐art UVI facility in 2001. In October of 2007, a five‐year contract extension was inked between Basketball Travelers, Inc., and the University of the Virgin Islands, ensuring the future of the Paradise Jam tournament in St. Thomas through 2013. Basketball Travelers, Inc. has worked with Fox Sports since 2004 to televise multiple Paradise Jam tournament games annually, both men's and women's. This year’s semifinals and consolation games will be tele‐ vised on Fox College Sports and Fox Sports Net, with the championship to be seen on Fox Sports Net. Saint Joseph’s will open the tournament facing Boston College on November 20, and will play a total of three games in the tournament. The rest of the field is comprised of DePaul, East Carolina, Northern Iowa, Purdue, South Dakota State and Tennessee.
