Our 17 schools and colleges, nine campuses, hun- dreds of degree programs and more than 35,000 students combine to create one of the nation's most comprehensive and diverse learning envi- ronments. In neighborhoods, across disciplines and on a global stage, members of the Temple community are making things happen.

Founded in 1884 by Dr. Russell Conwell, as an informal adult-education outgrowth of his Baptist Temple ministry, Temple College was chartered in 1888 and was incorporated as in 1907. Temple has evolved into a comprehen- sive urban research and academic institution.

In 1965, Temple became a member of the Com- monwealth System of Higher Education. Four of Temple’s eight locations are in Philadelphia. Its 115-acre Main Campus and its 17-acre Health Sciences Center have been the primary sites of more than $500 million in con- struction and renovation over the past several years.

Our 35,000 students can choose from nine campuses and 333 academic degree programs. There are two associate degree programs (Hor- ticulture and General Studies), 141 bachelors programs, 123 masters programs, 60 doctoral programs, and seven first-professional degree programs in the fields of dentistry, law, medicine, pharmacy, and podiatric medicine.

Temple’s 186-acre campus in suburban Ambler offers programs in community and regional plan- ning, horticulture, landscape architecture and others. At our Fort Washington, Harrisburg and Center City Philadelphia locations, students can take a wide variety of undergraduate, graduate and non-credit courses. Center City is the home of the School of Podiatric Medicine and Temple University Center City, which serves the credit and noncredit education and enrichment needs of area corporations and residents.

We have a large and robust study abroad pro- gram with campuses in Rome and Tokyo, pro- grams in London, Beijing, Paris, Mumbai and other sites.

GREATNESS • 24 • • 25 • DOESN'T QUIT. 2018-19 Temple Basketball Gameday OwlSports.com TO OUR FANS Dear Temple Fan:

As a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Temple is re- sponsible for exercising “institutional control” over its intercollegiate athletic program. Under this concept, the University is held accountable for the acts of anyone identified as a “representative of athletics interests.”

By NCAA definition, a “representative of athletics interests” is any individual who is (a) a member of the institution’s athletics booster club, (b) has made contributions to the booster clubs or to the athletic department, (c) is involved in providing jobs for enrolled student-athletes, (d) has ever been involved with the Temple athletics program or (e) is otherwise involved in promoting the institution’s athletics program.

Under NCAA legislation, “representative of athletics interests” are prohibited from any contact, including letters and telephone calls, for purposes of recruitment with prospec- tive student-athletes, their relatives, legal guardians, teachers and coaches. Such con- tacts are to be initiated exclusively by authorized athletics department staff members only. If you receive a telephone call from a prospect or their relative(s), do not discuss the athletics program and refer them to the athletic department.

Obviously, the perils of overzealous and misguided boosters are many. We request that “representatives of athletics interests” do not make recruiting contacts with prospective student-athletes at any time. No matter how well-meaning the communication, it has the potential to place our program in jeopardy of NCAA sanctions. Athletics representa- tives may NOT make special arrangements or provide any benefits to currently enrolled student-athletes, his or her parents, relatives or friends.

Representatives of athletics interests are subject to NCAA legislation that requires member institutions to revoke or withhold privileges of any individual who has engaged in conduct that is determined, either by the University, the American Athletic Confer- ence, or the NCAA, to be a violation of NCAA legislation, regardless of whether such violation results in the imposition of sanctions, and shall be subject to the revocation or withholding of any athletically related benefit or privilege, received by that individ- ual from the University. Such benefit or privilege may include, without limitation, ticket privileges which may be withheld by the University for that period of time which the University, American Athletic Conference Conference or NCAA deems appropriate. The revocation of ticket privileges may result in an individual being denied admittance to any University hosted athletic event.

If you have questions, contact Intercollegiate Athletics for clarification before taking any action. Should you wish to receive more information on applicable NCAA policies, Intercollegiate Athletics will be pleased to send you a free copy of the pamphlet “A Guide for Temple Alumni, Athletic Sponsors, and Representatives of Athletics Interests.” To obtain a copy, call 215-204-5668.

We are grateful for your support and appreciate your attention to NCAA regulations regarding Temple prospective and enrolled student-athletes.
