AINLAY, Ph .D. ixon Ryan Fox, Union’s 12th president, was someone with whom I identify in many ways. He was an academic. He wanted to rekindle Union’s sense of Dhistory. He and his wife cared deeply for and appreciated the significance of the President’s House. Unfortunately, President Fox died suddenly while in office in 1945, the year the College was celebrating its sesquicentennial. At the time of his death, he was working on a book to commemorate the milestone. In what proved a title with double meaning, Union College: An Unfinished History, Fox talked about the importance of Union’s mission not only to students but for the world in general. He also emphasized that Union’s distinguished history paved the way for future chapters that would prove even more remarkable. I look back with pride at what we have accomplished in the last decade. We have an outstanding academic reputation, with faculty known internationally for their work and top-rank students who embrace the opportunities to take on original research, explore other disciplines, and even create new ones. We are a community that is more diverse than ever, but also more inclusive of a range of understandings and perspectives. We have an ethic of service and we respond to the needs of others in our community and the greater world.

Applications for the five-year joint B.A./B.S. and M.B.A., and the six-year Law and Public Policy programs must be filed by Jan. 1. The deadline for the Leadership in Medicine program is Dec. 15. Transfer applications should be filed by May 1 for fall term, Oct. 1 for winter term, and Feb. 1 for spring term. School Transcripts: Forms are included in the application and should be completed and filed by school authorities by Feb. 1. Supplementary records should be requested from the schools at the mid-year and in June. Entrance Examinations: SAT I: Reasoning Test or two SAT II: Subject Tests or the American College Testing examination must be completed by January of the senior year (by December for accelerated programs). Interviews: Individual interviews are strongly recommended and must be completed by the end of January. Financial Aid Applicants: Applicants must file the College Scholarship Service’s PROFILE Form and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with the appropriate agencies no later than Feb. 1. Admissions and Financial Aid Decisions: Will be announced before April 15. Candidate Reply Date: Accepted candidates will be expected to reserve places in the first-year class by May 1.     Clarkson's leading scorer, captain Kate Allgood tallies the first goal for Clarkson in the exhibition game against Bluewater on Octo- ber10. She finished with 33 points on the season, including 18 goals through 30 games 2003-04 SEASON in REVIEW ixteen victories highlighted a highly impressive debut season for the Clarkson University Women’s S Hockey team. Playing in their inaugural campaign as a Division I Independent, the Golden Knights, guided by head coach Rick Seeley and assistant coaches Ted Wisner and Shannon Smith, posted a 16-11-3 record this winter against a schedule featuring a mix of established Division I teams and some of the top Division III programs in the country. Laying the foundation for a promising future, Clarkson skated a very young line up, featuring 20 freshmen on the 22-women roster. The Knights, who will join the Eastern College Athletic Confer- ence (ECAC) next season, dominated their Division III opponents this winter and were competitive against every one of their Division I foes. The Green and Gold went undefeated against Division III competition with an 8-0-1 mark, includ- ing a sweep of defending Division III national Champion Elmira (2-1, 3-0) on the Soaring Eagles’ home ice in Late October and early November. Clarkson also knocked off the third, fourth and fifth-ranked Division III teams in the country, defeating SUNY power Plattsburgh (4-1, 2-1) in a home-and-home series late in the season, handing Middlebury one of its four losses during the regular season, a 6-2 pounding on the Panthers home-ice in Vermont on January 23, and edging NESCAC Champion Bowdoin (2-1) at Cheel Arena on December 7.

    Coaching Staff NATE LEAMAN HEAD COach Sixth Season (72-88-22) SUNY Cortland ‘97 Union’s 15th head coach and fourth leader behind the bench since the program moved to the Division I level prior to the 1991 season, Nate Leaman enters his sixth season as the head coach of the Dutchmen. Prior to the 2008-09 season, Union Athletic Director Jim McLaughlin extended Leaman’s contract, keeping him in command until at least the 2010-11 season. In 2007-08, Leaman led the Dutchmen to a program-best fourth-place finish in ECAC Hockey, earning the school’s first first-round bye in the league playoffs. Union finished with a 15-14-6 record, including two-of-three victories against crosstown rival RPI, earning the Dutchmen the Capital Skates Trophy. The Dutchmen also set a school record by winning seven consecutive games. Leaman, the winnigest coach in Union’s Division I history with 72 victories, led the team to a program-best 10-7-5 conference mark and secured home ice in the playoffs for the fifth time in six seasons. He led the Dutchmen to a winning home record for the third consecutive season in 2007-08, including a span when Union defeated UConn, Colgate, Cornell, RPI and Princeton. Under his guidance, three Union student-athletes were named to All-ECACH teams in 2008, with defenseman Lane Caffaro earning second-team honors and Adam Presizniuk and Corey Milan being selected to the all-rookie team. Ten of Leaman’s student-athletes were selected to the All-ECACH Academic squad, bringinig the total of all academic selections during his tenure to 38.
