Fall/Winter 2012 Electro-Fi Newsletter Electro-Fi Records <noreply@electrofi.com> 2 December, 2012 2:06 PM To: Gary Collver Fall/Winter 2012 Electro-Fi Newsletter Fall/Winter 2012: While it certainly still can be a Mean Old World at times, 2012 has turned out to be an excellent year here at Electro-Fi Records, so first and foremost we want to thank you, our fellow Blues aficionados for sharing our deep love of the Blues. We couldn't begin to do what we do without all of your interest and kind support. Back in June we had 5 of our releases listed on the U.S. Roots Music Top Fifty Radio Chart, and in May we had the distinct pleasure of attending Electro-Fi artist and Chicago Blues Legend BILLY BOY ARNOLD'S induction into the Blues Hall of Fame in Memphis, during the Blues Foundation's Blues Music Awards week. Speaking of Billy Boy Arnold, he has asked us to thank you for helping to make his "Billy Boy Arnold Sings Big Bill Broonzy" release one of 2012's Traditional Blues highlights. This CD was a project close to all our hearts, and it's sure nice to see an artist from Chicago's Golden Age of the Blues step up and put out such a strong and vital album in 2012. A tip of the hat to producer ERIC NODEN, BLAISE BARTON @ Joy Ride Studio in Chicago and our pal BOB RIESMAN for his insightful liner notes, If you haven't picked up Bob's definitive Big Bill Broonzy Biography "I Feel So Good" yet, you are missing a great read. Harrison has also been nominated for 2 MapleBlues Awards. Harrison's plans for 2013 include recording his next album for Electro-Fi in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Canada's Award Winning Blues Duo DIANA BRAITHWAITE & CHRIS WHITELEY spent 2012 hard at work touring, including performing an original work "Blues Suite" at the Glenn Gould Studio theatre, and most importantly of all writing and recording an amazing new album "Scrap Metal Blues" due out in the Spring of 2013.     Jimmy D. Lane Biography "Son of the Blues" At the age of 47, Jimmy D. Lane has already led quite a full life. The musicians he knows makes for an impressive resume. He has worked with Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, Jim Keltner, Keith Richards, B.B. King, Van Morrison, Jonny Lang, Gary Moore, Double Trouble, Taj Mahal, Stephen Stilles, Jeff Healy, Jimmie Lee Robinson, Lowell Fulson, and Snooky Pryor, Kim Wilson, Pinetop Perkins, Johnny ‘Big Moose’ Walker, Johnnie Johnson, Kim Wilson, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Harry Hypolite, George ‘Wild Child’ Butler, David ‘HoneyBoy’ Edwards, Weepin’ Willie Robinson, Little Hatch, Nancy Bryan, Willie Kent, Henry Gray, Lazy Lester and Eomot RaSun. He has also worked with venerable blues greats such as Sam Lay, Hubert Sumlin, Carey Bell, Dave Meyers and his father, the legendary Jimmy Rogers. Coming from this environment has instilled in Lane the deepest respect for elder statesmen of the blues. "I would break a string and put it back in the case like he wasn't going to discover it," Lane recalls.

    Bob Corritore Bio Bob Corritore is one of the most active and highly regarded blues harmonica players on the scene today. His style passionately carries forward the old school of playing that Corritore learned as a young man directly from many of original pioneers of Chicago Blues. His sympathetic, yet fiery harmonica playing is featured on over 25 releases to date, on labels such as HighTone, HMG, Blue Witch, Blind Pig, Earwig, Putumayo, Random Chance, and the VizzTone Label Group. Many of these acclaimed releases have been nominated for various Handy, Grammy, and Blues Music Awards. Bob is also widely recognized for his many roles in the blues, as band leader, club owner, record producer, radio show host, arts foundation founder, and occasional writer. His amazing website www.bobcorritore.com and his weekly e-newsletter reflect a life thoroughly invested in the blues. Born on September 27, 1956 in Chicago, Bob first heard Muddy Waters on the radio at age 12, an event which changed his life forever. Within a year, he was playing harmonica and collecting blues albums. He would see blues shows in his early teens, including attending a Muddy Waters performance at his high school gymnasium. He would cut his teeth sitting in with John Henry Davis on Maxwell Street until he was old enough to sneak into blues clubs. He hung around great harp players such as Big Walter Horton, Little Mack Simmons, Louis Myers, Junior Wells, Big John Wrencher, and Carey Bell, and received harmonica tips and encouragement from many of them. He would regularly see the Aces, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Billy Boy Arnold, John Brim, Sunnyland Slim, Smokey Smothers, Eddie Taylor, and in many cases became personal friends with these blues veterans.

There has always been a kind of base audience that are true Blues Lovers, and fans of highly visible Blues artists like Buddy Guy, BB King, Koko Taylor and others who have been around for years. And those performers have often experienced periods with less work. So, a Blues artist must keep busy, and play wherever in the world, whenever. Unfortunately, Blues is the least promoted music. So, as Sonny Boy Williamson said, ‘You got to catch it while it’s hot, if you let it cool, I won’t be worth a damn!’ And so, I’ll only stop when too old to perform. Which is the country where you found yourself most at ease and why? Each country has something different to offer. I have a great appreciation for warm climates. I think that is naturally in my DNA. I like Quebec, and Canada in general because of the diversity. I had great experiences in Iceland, recording, and live performances. As you know I lived in Italy for five years primarily because of the beauty of Italian people, their rich cultural heritage, and their appreciation of Black Music and culture. You know the expression, ‘different reason, different season.’ Seasons can be, metaphorically, a person’s age. Where you are in your life. Things are always changing. And from the musical point of view which one did you think was the best? Italy, Quebec, Senegal, Iceland, Kenya.

Nowadays, being the eldest of 10, I sit back and the food was ready, and she’d say, “No, and get out of here. Go watch my younger siblings cook because they all think they’re back into the yard and play.” We would be really hungry when it the best in the world. They show up for a big cookout, each came to eating time, but it was well worth the wait.
