IN KEEPING OUR FINGER ON THE PULSE of the nursing community, we’re attuned to the issues that might cause a reaction. Take, for instance, the new color-coding mandates at some hospitals. The majority of you told us you’d prefer to express some individuality at work—if not with prints, then with solids of your own choosing. Plus, the idea of a closet full of scrubs you can no longer wear is none too appealing (ouch, that hurts the pocketbook!). We respect the pride you feel in looking good at work, showing off your own personal style. Then there’s the fact that prints and bright colors definitely bring cheer to patients (and isn’t that part of the job?). For those of you who are less than pleased with the new regulations some hospitals are instituting, here’s something you can cheer about: The latest solid-color scrubs the leading brands are producing are trés chic and anything but uniform. Check out some of the great-looking options you have on page 19 in “Color Me Stylish.” Another issue that many nurses find distressing is how hard it is to lose weight. To that end, we asked Liz Neporent, an award-winning journalist and author of 15 best-selling health books, to look into the stunning fact that more than half of all nurses are obese or overweight.
