INVENTORY TO ARCHIVAL BOXES IN THE MOTION PICTURE, BROADCASTING, AND RECORDED SOUND DIVISION OF THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS Compiled by MBRS Staff (Last Update December 2017) Introduction The following is an inventory of film and television related paper and manuscript materials held by the Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division of the Library of Congress. Our collection of paper materials includes continuities, scripts, tie-in-books, scrapbooks, press releases, newsreel summaries, publicity notebooks, press books, lobby cards, theater programs, production notes, and much more. These items have been acquired through copyright deposit, purchased, or gifted to the division. How to Use this Inventory The inventory is organized by box number with each letter representing a specific box type. The majority of the boxes listed include content information. Please note that over the years, the content of the boxes has been described in different ways and are not consistent. The “card” column used to refer to a set of card catalogs that documented our holdings of particular paper materials: press book, posters, continuity, reviews, and other. The majority of this information has been entered into our Merged Audiovisual Information System (MAVIS) database. Boxes indicating “MAVIS” in the last column have catalog records within the new database. To locate material, use the CTRL-F function to search the document by keyword, title, or format. Paper and manuscript materials are also listed in the MAVIS database. This database is only accessible on-site in the Moving Image Research Center. If you are unable to locate a specific item in this inventory, please contact the reading room.

They're probably 3 1/2, 4 1/2 feet tall. We had 'em in 'S.W.A.T." uniforms. If nothing else, I can wake up in Tunafish, Wyoming, nine in the morning, hung-over; even if I'm miserable, I can look out the door to the hallway and there goes a midget in a bath towel holding the hand of a girl he was with last night--and I know I'm in rock 'n' roll!" (http://www.dlrarmy.com/) Dave’s quotes, April 16, 2008 "An ounce of image is worth a pound of performance" (http://www.dlrarmy.com/) Dave’s quotes, April 16, 2008 I love Van Halen. They were the ULTIMATE party band, and you can’t say ‘L.A. rock ‘n’ roll’ without including their name. They’ve always been the heart and sound of Hollywood party rock, and then on top of that they had the ace gunslinger and rhythm section; add in court jester nonpareil, Diamond Dave. There is no mystery to why they were successful. —Alice Cooper We celebrate all the sex and violence of the television, all the rockin’ on the radio, the movies, the cars and everything about being young or semi-young or young at heart. That’s Van Halen. —David Lee Roth When it was announced in February of 2007 that the original lead singer of the rock band Van Halen was reuniting with the band for a major US summer tour, the news was greeted by a mix of doubt and glee (mostly glee).

  • Film Classification Branch
ANNUAL REPORT OF THE FILM CLASSIFICATION BRANCH FOR 1979 BRITISH •bCl COLUMBIA HON. ALLAN WILLIAMS, Q.C. M. L. MCCAUSLAND Attorney-General of British Columbia Director of Film Classification MINISTRY OF ATTORNEY-GENERAL Honourable ALLAN WILLIAMS, Q.C. A ttorney-General Victoria, B.C. SIR: I have the honour to lay before you a report of the business done in pursuance of the Film Classification Branch during the fiscal year ended December 31,1979. MARY-LOUISE McCAUSLAND Director February 15,1980. INTRODUCTION The Motion Pictures Act of 1970 is the authority under which this Branch operates. All pictures to be shown to the public must first be submitted to the Director for classification. The three categories of classification are GENERAL, MATURE, and RESTRICTED. A warning indicating the possibly objectionable content of a film may be assigned as part of the classification. The Annual Report of Film Classification is based on a calendar year. This year's report provides a five-year monthly and annual comparison for 1975 to 1979. Revenue for 1979 increased by $7,370.42 over 1978, although the number of films submitted increased by only three. The increase can be accounted for by the increase in the number of certificates issued. There appears to be a trend toward "saturation booking" of certain features, when a film will open in a large number of theatres simultaneously. Of particular interest this year is the change in proportions of ethnic films. Whereas Chinese films (PRC, Taiwan, and Hong Kong) made up 22 per cent of films viewed in 1978, they increased to 28 per cent in 1979.

Roller-Skating in the Groovy Era Roller Skating Was Crazy Awesome! by Rebeka Knott Roller skating has been around for decades. Its popularity may wax and wane like the moon. But it’s always around. The 1970s and 1980s are widely recognized as roller skating’s heyday. Everyone skated everywhere they went. From morning into the wee hours of the night at the roller discos. 1 Roller skates were literally as common as shoes or more like an appendage for some people. The fad had a funky yet provocative effect on people and a huge cultural impact overall. Everything was affected from the far-out clothing, rad roller-movies, and television shows to roller-related marketing strategies. Literally, everything went roller disco. It was like a very sparkly plague that made everyone wanna strap on some "blazin" pop wheels and get down on it. Pop-Wheels were wildly popular. There were many versions of pop wheels that were easier on the eyes. They were just like sneakers. But the roller sandals were pretty rough.

Queer Narratives in Disco Films: Saturday Night Fever, Xanadu, and Beyond A thesis presented to the faculty of the College of Fine Arts of Ohio University In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree Master of Arts Erin R. Drake August 2019 © 2019 Erin R. Drake. All Rights Reserved. 2 This thesis titled Queer Narratives in Disco Films: Saturday Night Fever, Xanadu, and Beyond by ERIN R. DRAKE has been approved for the Film Division and the College of Fine Arts by Ofer Eliaz Assistant Professor of Film Studies Matthew R. Shaftel Dean, College of Fine Arts 3 Abstract DRAKE, ERIN R., M.A., August 2019, Film Studies Queer Narratives in Disco Films: Saturday Night Fever, Xanadu, and Beyond Director of Thesis: Ofer Eliaz This thesis looks at the history of disco, specifically the significant role that films played in shaping our cultural understanding of the phenomenon. Through the use of queer theory and narratology, “Queer Narratives in Disco Films” argues that the reception of disco and disco films is shaped by heteronormative assumptions of how narratives ‘should’ be understood. Such assumptions can have homophobic implications. Apart from breaking down the narrative structure of disco films, this thesis also further explores disco’s relationship to cinema by examining disco films situated in various genres and the affect of disco in modern films. This project reveals how disco can always be read with a queer sensibility and that reading disco as queer is necessary for preserving an often- erased history. 4 Acknowledgments I am very proud of my thesis; it is an excellent representation of my passions as an individual and my strengths as an emerging film scholar.
