Pastor Dear Friends, Fr. Thomas Kreidler As the summer approaches we look forward to many new and different [email protected] things. Some of us who are associated with school and the school year look forward to some time away from studies—or from helping the children with Parochial Vicar their studies. These weeks are often time for vacations, visitng relatives, Fr. Ron Williams seeing new and different sights and sometimes camps. It also gives us an [email protected] opportunity to develop skills, try on a “new hat” of a different outdoor Deacons experience or two. Deacon Mike Cassani There are some of these “new” opportunities here at IHM, especially our 500-4800 ([email protected]) Vacation Bible School that takes our children to a deeper understanding of God’s love in fun and song. There are various sports camps available as well Deacon Russ Feldkamp through the Boosters. 646-5309 ([email protected]) One thing we don’t take a vacation from is God’s love and our thanking God Deacon Mark Johnson for all our blessings. The Lord is with us always and we have the opportunity 509-4556 ([email protected]) this summer to enter into God’s loving presence in special ways—Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, Scripture and reflecting on our readings through Deacon Bill Mullaney “Lectio Divina” (reading a Scripture passage like the coming Sunday’s Gospel 753-7756 ([email protected]) and reflecting on words or phrases that stand out). Our spiritual life mirrors Deacon Dave Shaffer our ability to be grateful—our prayer life, especially the Mass, is about our 265-4456 ([email protected]) connecting with God in gratitude. Last year The Word Among Us published a guide to help us with our prayer day Deacon Dave Shea by day. I’d like to repeat that prayer process here. 310-6616 ([email protected]) God bless, Finance and Stewardship Joan Cardone 388-4084 ([email protected])

Kick-off Memorial Weekend Memorial Weekend Picnic Hosted by IHM Cub Scout Pack 694 Each of us has only so many hours in a day, and we do not know when our last day on earth will be. We make many choices in the course of our days and weeks, months and years. How will we use our time? What needs our attention? Who needs our presence and care? We may build something that matters, or waste the opportunities we have in favor of passing things. Through our decisions and actions, we build a life, the total sum of all that we are and do.

Jesus shows us that there is more to life than the focus on ourselves and those closest to us that often consumes our time and attention. That life that you’re building? Make it about more than your narrow concerns. Let yourself build something that has much greater impact. In the second reading for May 14, St. Peter says, “like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (1 Pet 2: 4-5) What we build and how we build it is an expression of what is most important to us.

When we turn to Christ, the living stone, our priorities change. In faith, we grow in a desire to give for the sake of others, to sacrifice beyond what we think we can, trusting that God will take our offering and build something wonderful. In the words of Blessed Theresa Gerhardinger, God’s cause becomes the only concern of our hearts. Christ calls us to build up the reign of God through our actions and interactions, in what we say and what we do. We may choose to give our time and resources to help others build a better life. We may contribute to parish ministries and Church initiatives to serve the poor, promote peace and advocate for justice. If we pour ourselves out, our hearts will be filled. If we resolve to build the Friday, May 26, 2017 at the IHM Pavilion reign of God, the reign of selfishness, material wealth, and need for security dissolve into the promise of a brighter Food, Fun, and a Flag Retirement tomorrow.
