Hong Kong Summer Fun Hong Kong Summer Fun True to its name, the Hong Kong Summer Fun “Shop.Eat.Play” (HKSF) campaign delighted even the most discerning visitors with all the amazing surprises one could ask for in a holiday. Visitors were treated to a range of attractive packages, lucky draws and citywide rewards we solicited through vigorous trade cooperation. Together with our comprehensive public relations and consumer communications initiatives, the summer promotion was an excellent demonstration of the industry’s determination to power up Hong Kong’s tourism. Developing Pre-Trip Awareness A great vacation starts with well-thought-out planning, and we understand that everyone could do with a bit of inspiration to make the most out of their precious time off. Employing a 360-degree communication plan allowed us to reach consumers worldwide as early as their research stage to get them interested in Hong Kong’s summer attractions before they become overwhelmed with choices. The purpose of the appealing offers we put together was to make their decision-making easier. Large-scale consumer communications campaign New “Shop.Eat.Play” TV commercial This 30-second video, showcasing some of Hong Kong’s finest shopping, eating and playing experiences during the HKSF campaign, was broadcast on Discovery Networks, Fox, Star Movies, CNN, BBC World News, National Geographic, and other major local channels. Digital promotions We extended our reach to a wider audience through key digital platforms, such as YouTube, Google and our own website and social media accounts. We ran a daily social media contest for a trip to Hong Kong to build up excitement during the countdown to the launch of the HKSF campaign. -
The Dutch Radio Day
The Dutch Radio Day It was in 1978 that Mike Baron and Nick Oakly from Music Radio Promotions asked as few people from the Netherlands, including Hans Knot, to cooperate in a special event called Zeezenders 20, which was held at Noordwijkerhout. Inspired by the Zeezenders 20 happening Rob Olthof from Amsterdam suggested that he, along with Hans, could organise small meetings for offshore radio fans. He made a beginning with the so- called ‘Movie Afternoons’. It was the time when private videos arose and so those 8mm movies, made by offshore radio anoraks, were screened and some discussions were launched. In 1980, Hans Verbaan of the Free Radio Campaign joined in and a group of interested people got together in a small building in Scheveningen harbour on quite a regular basis. These movie afternoons sometimes took place twice a year and it came to a point that there were more people than available chairs. Therefore some bigger locations in cities like Amsterdam, Haarlem, Utrecht and again Amsterdam had to be found. In 1984, the first guests were interviewed including Simon Barrett, Juul Geleick and Tom Mulder. In the meantime, the organising team was growing with Piet Treffers and Tom de Munck joining in. From the late eighties, more people from abroad - most of all Germany and Belgium - attended the event each year. During the nineties, more and more deejays and technicians from former offshore radio stations visited the Radio Days to be interviewed. Our team had been joined by Jelle Boonstra, who did a marvellous job within the Radio Day organisation during a period of 15 years. -

There was little evidence of any slow- ing up of the pace of new business startups. In the first 4 years of the new century, Virgin had founded a new airline in Australia; retail ventures in Singapore and Thailand; wireless telecom companies in Asia, the US, and Australia; and a wide variety of online retailing. While several of these new ventures had been very successful (the Australian airline Virgin Blue and Virgin Mobile in particular), the financial health of several other Virgin companies was looking precarious. Several of Branson’s startups had been financial disasters – Virgin Cola and Victory Corporation in par- ticular. Other more established members of the Virgin group (such as Virgin Rail and Virgin Atlantic) required substantial investment, while yielding disappointing operating earnings. While Branson’s enthusiasm for supporting new business ideas and launching companies that would challenge business orthodoxy and seek new approaches to meeting customer needs seemed to be undiminished, skeptics sug- gested that the Virgin brand had become overextended and that Branson was losing his golden touch. Payout gives Airbus a soft landing BUSINESS COMMENTARY By Alistair Osborne Wednesday January 29 2020, 12.01am How time flies at Airbus. It wasn’t so long ago that it had to bribe people to buy its planes — allegedly, anyway. Why do that nowadays? It can rely on a nice persuasive sales pitch from the staff. Yes, those at rival Boeing: the go-to place, apparently, for aircraft “designed by clowns who are in turn supervised by monkeys”. Naturally, Boeing’s horrors with the grounded 737 Max have added a bit of thrust to Airbus. Last year, it retook the top spot for aircraft deliveries for the first time in eight years: 863 versus 380 for Boeing, the US business reeling from two deadly Max crashes killing 346 people. But that doesn’t mean it’s all been cruise control for Airbus, as proved by its jumbo deal with three fraudbusters. Airbus has agreed to settle with the Serious Fraud Office, its French counterpart and US regulators after “investigations into allegations of bribery and corruption” that began in 2016. There’s no admission of guilt, but a €3.6 billion bill is a handy guide to the wide-bodied charge sheet that the European plane maker has opted not to fight. True, it’s hardly the first aerospace outfit to get nicked for alleged kickbacks to iffy middlemen. BAE Systems and Rolls-Royce have been here before. Rolls was one of the first to cough up under the SFO’s deferred prosecution agreement regime, paying £497 million in 2017. It’ll also be a DPA for Airbus: probably a record one, too, and all the more painful for having tipped off the SFO in the first place. -
