ROBERTA GAMBARINI QUARTET 1. srpna 2019 (IT/USA) Roberta Gambarini - zpěv Cyrus Chestnut – klávesy John Lee - basa Willie Jones III - bicí Roberta Gambarini vyrůstala poslechem hudební sbírky svého otce. Její první pěveckou inspirací byl Louis Armstrong a Ella Fitzgerald. Nedlouho poté objevila interprety jako Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday a Carmen McRae nebo umělce gospelu a blues - Mahalii Jackson a Bessie Smith. V roce 1998 získala stipendium ke studiu na konzenvatoři New England v Bostonu. Pouhé dva týdny po nástupu ke studiu v USA překvapila Roberta jazzový svět třetím místem v soutěži Thelonious Monk Vocal Competition 1998. Díky tomuto ocenění a spolupráci s největšími světovými muzikanty se Roberta Gambarini rychle stala součástí mezinárodního jazzového kruhu umělců, objevujících se na festivalech a v klubech celého světa (Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Hollywood Bowl, Jazz v Lincolnově centru, North Sea Jazz Festival, Umbria Jazz Festival ad.) Během své umělecké kariéry spolupracovala na koncertech a studiových nahrávkách s osobnostmi jazzu jako jsou Dave Brubeck, James Moody, Hank Jones, Clark Terry, Herbie Hancock, Jimmy Heath, Roy Hargrove, Jimmy Cobb, Al Foster, Michael & Randy Brecker, Slide Hampton, Frank Wess, Harold Mabern, Toots Thielemans, Paquito D’Rivera, Chucho Valdez, Mark O’Connor, Cyrus Chestnut, Percy Heath, Ron Carter, Johnny Griffin, Dizzy Gillespie, All Stars Big Band, Billy Higgins, Cedar Walton, Ray Drummond, George Cables, Mulgrew Miller, Kenny Burrell, Wynton Marsalis’Jazz a mnoha dalšími.. Její první album “Easy to Love” bylo nominováno na cenu Grammy. Album “So in Love” získalo cenu Grand Prix du Jazz Vocal 2009 ve Francii. Dvakrát byla Jazzovou asociací novinářů nominována na ženskou zpěvačku roku. Legendární skladatel a jazzový saxofonista Benny Carter ji několikrát označil jako svou oblíbenou zpěvačku. Roberta začala spolu s kapelou svého učitele, mentora a přítele Jamese Moodyho spolupracovat na turné “Dizzy Gillespie All Star Big Band” a účinkovala zde po boku jazzových legend jako Frank Wess, Jimmy Heath, Paquito d’Rivera a Roy Hargrove. V roce 2008 nahrála album “You are There” s proslulým Hankem Jonesem, skladatelem a jazzovým klavíristou, který za svou kariéru doprovázel mnoho slavných zpěváků 20. století jako je Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Carmen McRae a Nat King Cole. Sám Hank Jones označil Robertu Gambarini jako nejlepší zpěvačku posledních 60 let. V roce 2015 nahrála Roberta sbírku skladeb “Connecting Spirits”, napsanou dalším z jejích mentorů - saxofonistou, skladatelem a aranžérem Jimmym Heathem, který na některých skladbách z alba vystupuje s kapelou The Legendary Heath Brothers nebo s bubeníkem Master Tootie Heath. .

Roberta Gambarini Bio Definitive
ROBERTA GAMBARINI Born and raised in Turin, Italy, to music loving parents (who had actually first met at a jazz concert), Roberta Gambarini grew up constantly listening to her father’s record collection. Her first vocal inspiration was Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald , but she soon discovered Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, and Carmen McRae, as well as gospel and blues artists such as Mahalia Jackson and Bessie Smith. At age 12 she began studying clarinet, but realizing the versatility and talents of her clear alto, she moved to voice, singing and performing in clubs by the time she was 17. In 1998, Gambarini received a scholarship to study for two years at the New England Conservatory in Boston. Barely 2 weeks after setting foot on American soil for the first time, Roberta surprised the jazz world by finishing third in the 1998 Thelonious Monk Vocal Competition. With this recognition as a springboard and the assistance of some of the greatest musicians in the world, who immediately appreciated her talent and invited her to perform with them, she quickly became a fixture on the international jazz circuit, appearing in major concert halls, Festivals and clubs around the globe ( Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Hollywood Bowl , Jazz at Lincoln Center , the North Sea Jazz Festival, Umbria Jazz Festival, and many more) . 19_27 GIU 2021 New Classic Jazz torinojazzfestival.it UN PROGETTO DI REALIZZATO DA Il TJF approda alla nona edizione con l’ambizione di accompagnare con la musica il desiderio di ripartenza che tutti proviamo. Nonostante i tempi complessi il Festival mantiene l’alto livello qualitativo che lo contraddistingue ospitando artisti internazionali ai quali si affiancano artisti e maestranze del panorama italiano della musica dal vivo, con l’intento di continuare l’azione di sostegno che la Città ha intrapreso sin dalla scorsa edizione. Ulteriore spazio è offerto dal TJF all’aspetto formativo e ai giovani musicisti che studiano il jazz e ne praticano le forme espressive; sfogliando il programma si possono, infatti, apprezzare conferenze tematiche di alto livello e concerti che vedono gli studenti esibirsi sui palchi più prestigiosi della rassegna. Il necessario rispetto delle misure di sicurezza e le difficoltà logistiche rendono questa edizione speciale: è evidente lo sforzo ideativo e organizzativo messo in campo per poter proporre il palinsesto ora sotto i nostri occhi. Un sentito ringraziamento va dunque a chi realizza materialmente il festival: i jazzisti sui palchi, i tecnici e la direzione artistica affidata a Diego Borotti e Giorgio Li Calzi. Questi mesi dominati dal Covid-19 hanno svelato quante siano le professionalità coinvolte nel mondo dell’arte e quale prezioso lavoro svolgano “dietro le quinte”.
