Abstract: Thisstudywasconductedtodeterminesuitableperennialforageandtheirmixturesfortheestablishmentofshort- termartificialpasturesunderdryconditionsinAnkarabetween2000and2002.( sativa L.),sainfoin(Onobrychis sativaLam.),smoothbrome( Bromusinermis Leys.),crestedwheatgrass( Agropyroncristatum (L.)Gaertn.)andtheirbinaryand complexmixtureswereused.Theresearchwascarriedoutinarandomizedblockdesignwith4replicates.Theresultsshowed significantdifferencesamongthebotanicalcompositionratioinmixtures.Thehighestgreen,anddrymatteryieldwereobtained fromalfalfa+smoothbromemixtures(16.05tha -1,5.04tha -1and4.71tha -1,respectively)andthehighestproteinyieldwas obtainedfromalfalfa(0.859tha -1).Thehighestmixtureefficiencywasfoundinthecaseofthealfalfa+smoothbromemixture (1.53).Theresultsshowed thatmixturesofalfalfaandsmoothbromemaybeusedtoestablishartificialpasturesinAnkara’sclimatic conditions,andthatsainfoinmightbeaverysuitableinthemixtureincludingcrestedwheatgrassifsomeresistantvari eties againstrootinsectsareimproved.
