We are an active chapter of the Global Monte Jade Science and Technology Association (www.mjglobal.org), having chapters around the world – from the United States, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, mainland China to Taiwan. We have been busy throughout the year building stronger networks within our members and local communities. In 2012, we have been focusing on many activities that include: holding seminars on Anti- Trust law, college admission and scholarship applications, and Taiwan ECFA. Some of these activities are partnerships with our sister organizations, such as CAPASUS, ACIT, and ACP. All of these efforts are dedicated to fulfill the objectives of our mission. This year marks the 20th year of our chapter which is a huge milestone for us. Therefore, we have taken an initiative into the latest internet technology by providing a series of Cloud Technology seminars in October and November. These seminars will give all members a more complete and thorough view on Cloud Technology. For our 20th annual conference, it is a great honor to have two prestigious professors: Dr. Chintay Shih as our keynote speaker, who is also a Taiwan IT pioneer, and Dr. Calton Pu as our Cloud Computing speaker. The Young Achiever Award will be presented to 9 winners in recognition for their academic achievement, leadership, and community service. Sincerely Yours, Peter Chyan Peter Chyan 2012 Chairman 1 2012 MJSTASE 20th Annual Conference 美東南玉山科技協會第二十屆年會 Dear My Fellow Monte Jade Members and Friends, On behalf the MJSTA Scholarship Foundation of Southeastern Region, Inc., I would like to thank you for your continuing support and generous contribution to the MJSTASE Young Achiever Awards during the past years. Without your participation, it is not a possible task. Four years ago, the Foundation was founded and granted a 501 (C)(3) Tax Exempt Status by the IRS. This will allow the scholarship contributors to have tax benefit. The Foundation’s mission is not only sponsoring the Young Achiever Awards, but also helping allocate internship program for high school and college students during the summer months. The Foundation is also looking into the feasibility of helping the MJSTASE to have mentoring program for young entrepreneurs in our region. We may set up a grant for the education our young Monte Jade members in the future. In order to strengthen the Board functions, we have established a structure of the Board consisting of three long term members along with three latest immediate Past-Association Chairs and current Chair who will be stepping down each year when new immediate Chair move up. Three long tern members are Dr. K.J. Tan, Dr. Sueling Wang and Jimmy Ho; while other Board members are Mike Wang, Todd Yu and I I, as Board President, and Current Chair Peter Chyan. This year the Board decided to delegate the responsibility of selection process for the Youth Achiever Award to the Foundation. The Board decided nine MJ Youth Achiever Award winners judged by a five-Professor panel including: Drs. Yu-Shen Hsu (GSU), Steven Y. Liang (GT), ChinChen Hung (SCAD), Ray Wang (GT), and Yao-wen Huang (UGA). The MJSTASE is celebrating the 20th Jubilee of foundation. This is an important milestone for our growth. The Foundation and the Association have established a strong structure with a by-laws and codes during the last twenty years. For this, I have collected and compiled the winners of MJ Youth Achiever Awards attached followed this year’s recipients. Hope one day, those past-winners will make contributions and support to our Awards in the future. Nevertheless, we will continue to define the criteria as well as the increasing quota and scholarship amount for the coming years. We need your continuing support and commitment for the coming year. Thank you and have a good night. However, recently Apple iPhone and iPad changed the landscape of the IT global supply chain. Samsung quickly catch up and became a new leader in this 3:45 – 4:45 area. Can Taiwan IT industry maintain its position? Will Taiwan industry transform into an innovation lead value-creation economy? Internet and mobile service are the key drivers that change today’s businesses, education, health care, entertainments and government services. Taiwan's efforts in promoting IT enabled services can build new service industries based on solid manufacturing foundations. Moving beyond "OEM" model, a new paradigm shift is needed.
