Ledding Library News VOLUME 19, ISSUE 4 A P R I L 2 0 1 8 Interior and Exterior Views We have exciting news: at the Tuesday, April 24 community meeting we will be showing off the new library building designs. This meeting will include a presentation at the beginning of the meeting about the design, materials and site. The presentation will be followed by a Q & A, then viewing of display boards. Childcare and translation services (in Spanish) will be available. Light refreshments will be served. A majority of Council may be present, but no official business will be conducted and no actions will be taken. What more information? Visit: milwaukieoregon.gov/library. Women Take the Lead: Female Directors Last month, we celebrated International Women’s Day; a day to celebrate the achievements of half the planet and point out the gender imbalances in many occupations. Never is the discrepancy more striking than in the director’s chair where women make up a measly 7% of all directors. Only one woman has won a Best Directing Oscar and only four have been nominated. But these sad statistics don’t reflect that women are creating some of the most exciting and innovative films around. Here’s a short list to get you started: Kathryn Bigelow - The only female director to win an Oscar, she has been steadfast in making the films she wants; serious movies for adults. Check out: Food for Fines The Hurt Locker (2008) – An incredibly intense film about soldiers assigned to a bomb To celebrate this week, all of the disposal unit in Baghdad. -

Quentin Tarantino's KILL BILL: VOL
Presents QUENTIN TARANTINO’S DEATH PROOF Only at the Grindhouse Final Production Notes as of 5/15/07 International Press Contacts: PREMIER PR (CANNES FILM FESTIVAL) THE WEINSTEIN COMPANY Matthew Sanders / Emma Robinson Jill DiRaffaele Villa Ste Hélène 5700 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 600 45, Bd d’Alsace Los Angeles, CA 90036 06400 Cannes Tel: 323 207 3092 Tel: +33 493 99 03 02 [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] From the longtime collaborators (FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, FOUR ROOMS, SIN CITY), two of the most renowned filmmakers this summer present two original, complete grindhouse films packed to the gills with guns and guts. Quentin Tarantino’s DEATH PROOF is a white knuckle ride behind the wheel of a psycho serial killer’s roving, revving, racing death machine. Robert Rodriguez’s PLANET TERROR is a heart-pounding trip to a town ravaged by a mysterious plague. Inspired by the unique distribution of independent horror classics of the sixties and seventies, these are two shockingly bold features replete with missing reels and plenty of exploitative mayhem. The impetus for grindhouse films began in the US during a time before the multiplex and state-of- the-art home theaters ruled the movie-going experience. The origins of the term “Grindhouse” are fuzzy: some cite the types of films shown (as in “Bump-and-Grind”) in run down former movie palaces; others point to a method of presentation -- movies were “grinded out” in ancient projectors one after another. Frequently, the movies were grouped by exploitation subgenre. Splatter, slasher, sexploitation, blaxploitation, cannibal and mondo movies would be grouped together and shown with graphic trailers. -

Abstract This article is the result of a research project, funded by the University of the Basque Country, entitled The Journalistic Profession in the Cinema and its Reflection in Reality. The project included an analysis of 104 films, which form the basis of this article. Given that the cinema proposes and stipulates models of behaviour and that, simultaneously, it both reflects and influences reality, we review the cinematographic treatment received by women journalists in film. ANNUAL REPORT 2015 16_A70_TV_Acad_Ad.qxp_Layout 1 7/8/16 11:43 AM Page 1 PROUD MEMBER OF »CBS THE TELEVISION ACADEMY 2 ©2016 CBS Broadcasting Inc. MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AS THE QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF CONTENT HAVE INCREASED in what is widely regarded as television’s second Golden Age, so have employment opportunities for the talented men and women who create that programming. And as our industry, and the content we produce, have become more relevant, so has the relevance of the Television Academy increased as an essential resource for television professionals. In 2015, this was reflected in the steady rise in our membership — surpassing 20,000 for the first time in our history — as well as the expanding slate of Academy-sponsored activities and the heightened attention paid to such high-profile events as the Television Academy Honors and, of course, the Creative Arts Awards and the Emmy Awards. Navigating an industry in the midst of such profound change is both exciting and, at times, a bit daunting. Reimagined models of production and distribution — along with technological innovations and the emergence of new over-the-top platforms — have led to a seemingly endless surge of creativity, and an array of viewing options. As the leading membership organization for television professionals and home to the industry’s most prestigious award, the Academy is committed to remaining at the vanguard of all aspects of television. Toward that end, we are always evaluating our own practices in order to stay ahead of industry changes, and we are proud to guide the conversation for television’s future generations. -
