Mission of the College:

The mission of the College is to nurture the students with creativity, research orientation and finest qualities of leadership in order to excel in the work and life with servitude for the society.

Description:

Dadra and Nagar Haveli is an industrial hub. It provides an employment to the people from all the states of . It’s a melting pot in so far as people from various states, cultures, traditions and languages are living together. SSR College is a common thread for all the people.

Our institution was a set up as a step to fulfil the dream of Late Shree. Sanjibhai Rupjibhai Delkar, who was renowned freedom fighter and first Member of Parliament from DNH, father of Shree. Mohan S. Delkar (Chairman of SSR Memorial Trust) to empower the people from DNH and Tribal area with education. The SSR college of Arts, Commerce and Science not only provides the facility of education to the Tribal but also the people who have settled over here for the purpose of employment. Thus, it is a great boon for the people locally as well as surrounding area.

Academic and Administrative Audit Report

Introduction:

SSR College of Arts, Commerce and Science is spread over a lush green sprawling campus of 13.5 acres The College is first higher educational institute in the Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

The SSR College of Arts, Commerce and Science offer an education in the streams of Arts, Commerce and Science, which runs the UG courses like B.A., B. Com., B.Sc., B.B.A., B.B.A (Computer Application), B.Sc. in Computer Science as well as PG courses like M.Com. and M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry.

Since its inception in 2006, the college is affiliated to the Savitribai Phule University, Pune. As the College is located in Silvassa which has a Tribal population in majority, more concern and commitment is given for social justice, ensuring equity and expanding the access to higher education.

Objectives:

The SSR College has thoughtfully formulated its vision and mission keeping in view the fast- changing globalised world. The main objectives of the College are:

 To provide quality education to the students from various parts of the society, to make them academically and technically competent

 To improve existing infrastructural facilities of the college

 To create higher levels of intellectual abilities

 To create centres of excellence for research and development and for sharing knowledge and its application

 To lay emphasis on teaching, research and extension activities

 To inspire the students to remain uncorrupted and lead a dignified life

 To lay emphasis on character building by imbibing strong moral characters

Infrastructure:

The college has its well-established infrastructure, being supportive to curricular, extra- curricular and co-curricular activities on healthy lines. College is constructed with modern structure, catering to the needs of more than 1900 students. College has Fifteen (15) fully functional Class Rooms and 4 small rooms, which are well-equipped with adequate furniture, lighting and ventilation. The mode of teaching is both conventional Chalk & Talk method along with Digital mode.

The College has the following facilities:

Lecture Hall: Six Lecture Hall with Projectors

An Auditorium (with projector): It can accommodate more than 300 students

Computer Laboratory: High Quality Computer Lab with 70 PC’s

Botanical Area: Widespread Botanical Area with more than 72 types of plants and trees in the campus

Well Equipped Labs:

Computer Lab, Chemistry Lab, Microbiology Lab, Physics Lab, Botany Lab, Zoology Lab, Electronics Lab, Mathematics Lab, Psychology Lab. etc.

Computing equipment and internet facilities:

All departments are equipped with desktops with Internet connectivity.

College also installed scanner and printer in the office.

Library facilities:

The library has been fully automated which has a rich and varied collection of academic books, some rare journals (both national and international), Magazines, Fictions, Novels Competitive Books, General Books, Reference Books and different types of News Paper published in Hindi, English, Gujarati and Marathi which is accessible to all. INFLIBNET/ N-LIST facility is available for students and teachers. Computer and internet facility are available for the students inside the library.

CCTV: College has installed CCTV within the building and outside the building for security purpose.

Hostel facilities:

Separate hostels for boys and girls have been provided with TV room and Indoor games.

Physical Education and Sports department:

The College has provided sufficient Ground for athletes. The Sports complex having area of 131.88 sq. meter at ground floor and 131.88sq. meter at first floor to play Indoor games like Table Tennis, Carrom and Chess. A large playground, basketball ground and Green Gym are the most essential feature of the college campus.

Teaching-Learning:

College has enormous and latest IT Infrastructure to support the teaching & learning processes. Different ICT equipment like Scanners, Printers, LCD Projectors, Wi-Fi modems, Speakers, Pre-sound Amplifiers, and Microphone etc. are available in the College.

The College has planned programmes to provide exposure to enhance the students‟ learning experience by student centric methods like field trips, industrial visits, case-studies, project- based-learning and group discussions are adopted. In addition, guest lectures/invited talks are also arranged for student from time to time.

In teaching-learning process, cognitive development like learning, problem-solving, understanding is achieved using Video lectures, demonstrations, Industrial visits, quizzes, movie screening etc. Students are encouraged to undertake small scale Projects, Internship and Training to have a better understanding of the work environment.

The faculty Development Programme and several need-based awareness programmes, trainings and workshops have been arranged time to time for Teaching Faculty and non-teaching staff. College always encourage the faculty to publish their creative output in various National and Inter-national journal.

Special Features:

Teaching faculty of SSR College of Arts, Commerce and Science forms a strong backbone of teaching, learning, research, publication and over all academic development. Many of them

Academic & Administrative Audit Report: 2018-19 have published their papers in various national and Inter-national Journals. The faculty members are also associated with cultural and social organizations and contributed in their own way to make their identity felt by others.

All teaching faculties are committed and working as a team to achieve the academic excellence. The Management of the college is enormously supportive to the progress of the college. Constant and consistent monitoring of all the activities of the College and responding to the academic requirements of teachers, students and other staff members is creditable. The outstanding leadership of the Principal definitely makes all the difference. His untiring efforts to hold the rich traditions of the college are reflected through the visibility of the college among the other affiliated colleges of Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune.

Observations:

 Department has well qualified and experienced teaching faculty.  Innovative teaching methods and techniques are adopted in teaching and practical demonstrations.  Staff and students are actively engaged in awareness programmes related to mental health.  Teaching faculty is involved in extension and publication activities.  Performance of the students in the examinations is good.  Number of students taking admission every year for Psychology indicates quality of teaching.  The department undertakes field trips and visits annually.

Recommendations:

 Funds need to be made available for organizing workshops and seminars.  More number of seminars and workshops are to be organised.  The department may conduct a short-term certificate course.  Guest lecturers should be arranged on important topics.  Department needs to establish its own library.  Recruitment of a faculty is essential to strengthen the department.  Due to a greater number of students taking admission in Psychology, PG Course may be introduced.

Observations:

 Chemistry Department is one of the oldest departments of the College. The Chemistry department is able to sustain primarily due to the encouragement of Management, efforts of the Principal and the concerned Faculty member.  Dynamic leadership of the Head of Department is visible through the best performance and achievements of the students.  Number of students taking admission every year for Chemistry indicates quality of teaching.  Mentor-Mentee system is used to help a student which is indeed a best practice.  Teaching faculties are involved in research and publication activities and published research papers in reputed journals.  Innovative methods and techniques are adopted in teaching and practical demonstrations.  The department contributes immensely to the cultural activities and enrichment of students. Each and every teaching faculty apart from routine teaching are engaged in executing responsibilities and extension activities.  The PG final Year students are sent for training in instrumental techniques in different industries, so as to make them aware of working environment of industries.

With a study room of 110 seating capacity.  8009 books, 39 periodicals and 40,000 E-Journals and 2, 50,000 + E-books are available for students and faculty under DELNET.  Library is computerized with “VRIDDHI” software and digitalization is initiated.  05 computers with internet connectivity are available in library.  Inter library loan facility is available with three libraries of nearby college.  Library has one website (https://ssracslibrary.webs.com).  Library automation is semi automation.  OPAC is kept dynamic and Bar-coding translation is supporting the easy issue and return books  Separate reading provision is made for faculty members, students.  Subscribing selected Journals/Magazines useful for the students and teachers.  Subscribing to the N-List Programme of INFLIBNET and in the process provides liberal access to E-journals, E-Books and some databases.  Free access to INTERNET, suitable equipment for scanning and preserving rare and out of print books are the special features of the library.  There is paucity of preparations for projecting the available E-Information resources and open educational resources to the users’ community.  Conduct user Awareness Programme.  Orientation Programme.  Digital Archives: (Back volumes, old magazines & journals).  SSR, ACS College Library has succeeded in increasing the number of books, there appears to be still paucity in the number of copies of prescribed text books and reference books for some of the courses.
