On arrival, transfer to your hotel where you have the remainder of today to rest. Dinner is at the hotel this evening. (D) Day 2 Monday 24 June Paris One full day to explore the city that's known throughout the world for its fashions, art and museums, delicious food, and joie de vivre. In the morning we have sightseeing with a local expert to many of the best-known Parisian sites: La Sorbonne, Arc de Triomphe, Opera, Madeleine, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Pyramid, the Invalides, and Champs Elysees. We finish at the Eiffel Tower and suggestions and optional excursions will be provided by your Tour Director for the afternoon. Tonight, we enjoy the fabulous, Moulin Rouge with a delicious 3-course Mistinguett Dinner and complimentary ½ bottle of champagne per person. (B, D) Day 3 Tuesday 25 June Paris: Excursion to Giverny and the Palace of Versailles Travel through the picturesque Seine Valley to Giverny, former home of artist Claude Monet, founder of the French Impressionist movement. With an expert guide, stroll through his gardens past the iconic lily pond and stand on the Japanese bridge immortalized in some of his most beloved works. Then, enjoy free time to explore his beautifully restored house, the studio where he created some of his masterpieces, and the nearby Museum of Impressionism. Next is an included lunch of fine local cuisine and fresh seasonal produce at Moulin de Fourges, a charming restaurant in an historic 18th-century mill on the Epte River. Finally, continue to Louis XIV’s opulent Palace of Versailles. Led by an expert Local Guide, stroll through the incredible State Apartments, magnificent Hall of Mirrors, and the elegant 250-acre gardens. (B, L) Day 4 Wednesday 26 June Paris – Peronne – Longueval – Pozieres - Amiens Travel to Peronne, take pictures of the Australian Memorial of Mont Saint-Quentin, and visit the Museum of the Great War, the New Zealand Memorial of Longueval and the Australian First Division Memorial in Pozieres. (B) Day 5 Thursday 27 June Amiens – Rouen – Honfleur - Caen Drive first to the historical capital city of Normandy, Rouen, one of the largest and most prosperous cities of medieval Europe, and walk through its centre, rich in gothic architecture. Next, stop in lovely Honfleur, known for its picturesque port, characterised by houses with slate-covered facades, before reaching Caen. The highlights are Arromanches, St. Laurent, and the American Cemetery at Omaha. Next, journey to Bayeux, where you can admire the famous tapestry depicting William the Conquerors' epic battle in 1066 (entrance fee extra). Then, southwards to the unique beauty of Mont St. Michel, which stands on an island reached by a causeway. Dinner tonight is at our hotel. (B, D) Day 7 Saturday 29 June Mont St Michel – Angers – Chateaux Country Time to enjoy a visit of Mont St. Michel before a mid-morning departure to Angers to visit its Cathedral. After descending the island, enjoy lunch before departing for Angers to visit its cathedral Then, travel along the banks of the Loire River to reach your hotel. (B, L) Day 8 Sunday 30 June Chateaux Country: Excursion to Chateaux Chambord Today, visit two of the most important castles in the area. Start with the jewel of the French Renaissance, Chateau Chambord. Next is the 16th-century chateau of Catherine de Medici, lovely Chenonceau. Then, enjoy a wine tasting at the Pere Auguste wine cellar in Civray de Touraine to learn about the local wines before returning to your hotel, where dinner will be served in the evening. (B, D) Day 9 Monday 01 July Chateaux de Villandry – Limoges This morning we visit Chateaux de Villandry, to explore the magnificent gardens. We then travel to Limoges, our destination for the next 7 nights. Tonight, attend the Speed Shear. Limoges Tourism has organized live entertainment. (B) Day 10 Tuesday 02 July Limoges This morning we experience a city tour of Limoges with a local guide. The rest of the day is at leisure, I will provide some options. (B) Day 11 Wednesday 03 July Limoges We make a visit to the factory shop of Royal Limoges, which is the oldest existing porcelain shop in Limoges today. The factory has been operating since 1797 and still makes its own clay today! Enjoy the remainder of today at leisure. I will provide some options. (B) Day 12 Thursday 04 July Limoges: Le Dorat Journey to beautiful Le Dorat and attend the opening of the World Shearing Championships today. Guided village tour of Le Dorat. (B) Day 13 Friday 05 July Limoges: Excursion to Montrol-Senard, Mortemart and Oradour-sur-Glane A journey of 3 French villages today, to discover more of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. We begin with Montrol-Senard, a village that is a testament of years gone by. As we wander through the streets you will discover the living spaces, classrooms and barns that have been restored to emphasize traditions of the past. The monasteries in Mortemart are the focal point of our visit, as 2 of the 3 monasteries built in the 14th century still survive today. A somber stop awaits in Oradour-sur-Glane, as in 1944 the entire city was massacred by Nazi German troops. A new village was built after the war on a nearby site, but the original site has been kept as a permanent memorial.
