  • Contradictory Replies on Exim's Loan to 1MDB Malaysiakini.Com Jun 17, 2015 by Kow Gah Chie
Contradictory replies on Exim's loan to 1MDB MalaysiaKini.com Jun 17, 2015 By Kow Gah Chie Two deputy finance ministers have offered two accounts of why Finance Ministry-owned Export-Import Bank of Malaysia (Exim) loaned RM540 million to 1MDB. Yesterday, Chua Tee Yong (BN-Labis) told the Dewan Rakyat that the money was used by 1MDB to purchase land in Pulau Indah, Selangor at RM20.80 per square foot (psf) from Tadmax Resources Bhd. The deal was inked on Feb 20, 2014, said Chua. But today, Ahmad Maslan said that the money was used for the maintenance of power plants and operations involving energy export. Tony Pua (DAP-Petaling Jaya Utara): Why did Exim Bank loaned RM560 million, far higher than the price of the land - RM262 million? Ahmad: Purchase a plot of land? From the information that I have, this is not true. Pua : This has been explained by deputy finance minister Chua. Ahmad: Chua didn't say the loan was meant for purchase land. Pua: This is clearly untrue based on (the information) we received in the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). Pua said he was unable to reveal details because the PAC hearing on 1MDB was still ongoing. Exim Bank, a financial agency incorporated in 1995, is tasked to provide credit facilities to finance and support businesses in the import-export industry. On the other hand is another Finance Ministry-owned entity 1MDB. Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is both the finance minister and ultimate decision maker in 1MDB. A large part of 1MDB's RM41.8 million debt is guaranteed by the federal government.

  • DAP Presses Tee Yong on His Rm1b Selangor Scandal Malaysian Insider July 11, 2012
DAP presses Tee Yong on his RM1b Selangor scandal Malaysian Insider July 11, 2012 KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 — The DAP is pushing Datuk Chua Tee Yong to prove a RM1 billion land scandal in Selangor, saying today it has shown that property developer Talam Corporation Bhd repaid its RM392 million debt in a “round-tripping” financial exercise. The war of words between DAP and MCA over Pakatan Rakyat-ruled (PR) Selangor’s financial administration erupted last week even as both parties were also clashing over Penang’s hill development programmes with less than a year to go for the next general election. PR also rules Penang, apart from Kedah and Kelantan. “Datuk Chua Tee Yong must tell us where is Selangor’s RM1 billion land scandal, or has it become his RM1 billion mega-blunder?” DAP national publicity secretary Tony Pua said in a statement this morning. Pua and PAS MP Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad have been at the forefront of defending Selangor and Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim’s state administration, although the mentri besar has yet to reveal all details in a promised White Paper since three years ago. “We have also proven that Datuk Chua not only could not tell the difference between debit and credit columns of a balance sheet, he had the uncanny subtraction ability of ‘two minus one equals three’, which resulted in the impossible figure of RM1 billion mega-blunder. “However, since then, Datuk Chua has failed to respond or clarify on his mega billion-ringgit blunder. He only said during his press conference on 5th July 2012 that he’ll reply ‘once he has gathered further information’,” said the Petaling Jaya Utara MP.

  • PKR Mulled Tee Keat for Pandan but Chose Rafizi, Source Says Malaysian Insider February 24, 2013 by Clara Chooi and Md Izwan
PKR mulled Tee Keat for Pandan but chose Rafizi, source says Malaysian Insider February 24, 2013 By Clara Chooi and Md Izwan KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 ― PKR’s leadership considered fielding MCA’s Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat in Pandan for Election 2013 several months ago, a PKR source has confirmed, but the suggestion was immediately vetoed in favour of Rafizi Ramli. The source said the consideration was made after Ong’s MCA followers “sent out feelers” to PKR leaders on the possibility of him contesting on a PKR ticket, but without the former MCA president’s actual confirmation, the party had decided not to take the matter seriously. “We never actually heard from him even though his people had made representation on his behalf,” the source told The Malaysian Insider. “But there was a clear indication of Ong’s, or his people’s, intention. Only that it appeared he was just testing waters through his people so there was never anything really concrete.” He added that despite the matter being raised at leadership level, the party had decided to proceed with its campaign in Pandan and stick to Rafizi as its candidate, refusing to leave candidate selection to the last minute. The source pointed out that when the matter was raised, it had also appeared likely that Ong was Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s favoured choice for Pandan. Ong, who was deposed as MCA president by his current successor Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek during a fractious power struggle in 2010, has been the Pandan MP for five terms now.
