McLaren Automotive plans to build up to 1,000 12Cs in 2011. Most will be manufactured in a bespoke new £40m McLaren Production Centre, which is due for completion in May on a site adjacent to MTC. However, ‘Chassis 01’ is being built in the existing MTC production facility, where outstanding quality and highly efficient production methods have been fine-tuned since the Foster + Partners-designed building opened in 2004. The innovative 12C was first presented to the public at the famous Goodwood Festival of Speed in southern England in July 2010, prior to a North American debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August. 12Cs were then presented at exclusive events to prospective customers and media around the world as McLaren Automotive toured many of the cities that will form a network of 35 retailer launch locations. We have some inspirational GB athletes in world class form such as Mo Farah and Jessica Ennis – which hopefully will be rewarded in the shorter term with a few medals in the forthcoming World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea. Hopefully with all the buzz and excitement being generated over the next 12 months you will be motivated to train harder and perform to your best in all of your events. Don’t forget that the important thing is not to win, but to take part. We have plenty of events coming up in the future with the final Track & Field meetings, plenty on the Roads and over the Country, plus lots to look forward to Indoors (athletics and Sportshall).

  • Royal Automobile 1000 Mile Trial - Day One
    ROYAL AUTOMOBILE 1000 MILE TRIAL - DAY ONE Day one of the event started from the Royal Automobile Club at Woodcote Park where crews began by enjoying the British Grand Prix from Silverstone and a spot of lunch. As soon as the clock hit 1630 the first car passed under the infamous Hero archway leaving Woodcote park and onto tackling the Captains Drive Test. The first long run of the event took crews through the busy countryside south of the M25 and once everybody had escaped the built-up area of Dorking they went on to pass Dunsfold Aerodrome, home of the Top Gear test track, through the leafy lanes of Surrey and onto a comfort break at the Jolly Farmer Public House at Blacknest. A short run through the aptly named village of Bentley saw crews tackle the first practice regularity which skirted Odiham Airfield. Once the crews had completed the Regularity there was a short run onto the overnight halt at Wokefield Park. All the cars were displayed on the lawn outside the Mansion house and crews went on to enjoy their evening meals whilst sharing stories of the first day. As the crews parked up for the evening they told us how they were getting on in the event so far. Cars as they arrived at the Mansion house in Wokefield Park: 12- Very good nice route, lovely weather, navigators a bit rusty but a lovely little prelude to start the event. 1- Very happy and a good start to the event 2- Boy did alright! (Driver reffering to the Navigator) Very good start to the rally! 3- We’re glad it doesn’t count towards the final results! It’s been a while since we have done an event! 8- Very Happy and a great start to the event.

    Brain waves of Formula E world champion measured on Top Gear race track 16 July 2020 This might help us better understand how to improve the human drivers' performance by distilling the essence of a race car driver's intuitions, while at the same time helping to develop better artificially intelligent self-driving car technology by capturing and transferring the skills of the human driver into a driving machine. The study found that di Grassi tended to focus on the horizon and tracking curves when driving steep curves on the track, but that on straight parts he focused on the center of the road. It also found that levels of alpha and beta brain waves increased while tackling curves, but that delta waves decreased. Increased alpha brain waves are associated with boosted inventiveness and problem-solving complexity, whereas delta waves are associated with human attention. The changes in brain wave activity were correlated with more complex hand movements.
