  • The Vaquera Saddle with White Ornamentation, Where the Leather Is Tooled to Show a White Background
Viva Iberica Webshop Yeguada Iberica main site THE TRADITIONAL VAQUERA SADDLE Sometimes called a Vaquero saddle History The silla vaquera, or vaquera saddl is the everyday saddle used today and for past centuries by the Spanish Vaquero, probably the original cowboy, working in the fields and mountains of Spain. Vaquera saddles are also used for vaquero competition – or Doma Vaquera (translated as vaquero horse training, or dressage) - as well as when testing the fighting bulls and cows (Acoso y Derribo) and in the Ferias of Spain and of course for every day country riding. The vaquera or vaquero saddle is both comfortable for the rider and the horse, designed for many hours use every day and it has a large comfortable contact area over the horse’s back - a much greater contact area than the modern general purpose, dressage or jumping saddle. Traditionally vaquera saddles are covered in a sheepskin which is held in place by leather thongs, which may also be used for tying equipment to the saddle, or for emergency tack repairs when working out on the range. Illustrated is an everyday plain Vaquera Lisa saddle. The traditional vaquera or vaquero saddle tended to be heavy (and would be used with the relatively heavy steel ‘bucket’ stirrup) and were traditionally stuffed with rye straw and the panels filled with animal hair. Over time these could mould to the shape of the horse’s back. This design is still available today. Saddle development Utilising modern technology and development some manufacturers in Spain now produce vaquera saddles made to the traditional design and style but incorporating modern high-tech materials.

THROUGH ENGLAND ON A SIDE-SADDLE PDF, EPUB, EBOOK Celia Fiennes | 96 pages | 02 Apr 2009 | Penguin Books Ltd | 9780141191072 | English | London, United Kingdom Sidesaddle - Wikipedia Ninth century depictions show a small footrest, or planchette added to the pillion. In Europe , the sidesaddle developed in part because of cultural norms which considered it unbecoming for a woman to straddle a horse while riding. This was initially conceived as a way to protect the hymen of aristocratic girls, and thus the appearance of their being virgins. However, women did ride horses and needed to be able to control their own horses, so there was a need for a saddle designed to allow control of the horse and modesty for the rider. The earliest functional "sidesaddle" was credited to Anne of Bohemia — The design made it difficult for a woman to both stay on and use the reins to control the horse, so the animal was usually led by another rider, sitting astride. The insecure design of the early sidesaddle also contributed to the popularity of the Palfrey , a smaller horse with smooth ambling gaits, as a suitable mount for women. A more practical design, developed in the 16th century, has been attributed to Catherine de' Medici. In her design, the rider sat facing forward, hooking her right leg around the pommel of the saddle with a horn added to the near side of the saddle to secure the rider's right knee. The footrest was replaced with a "slipper stirrup ", a leather-covered stirrup iron into which the rider's left foot was placed.

  • 2021 Malheur National Wildlife Refuge
Implementation Progress Update 2021 This document is an implementation summary of the Collaborative Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP) between January 2013 and September of 2018. During this period significant effort was directed towards improving ecological function of aquatic systems, the highest CCP priority. Efforts were focused on Malheur Lake based on collaborative conversations and intercontinental importance to migratory birds. Resulting from extensive interactions it became clear Malheur Lake is both unique and a poorly understood ecosystem. With this as the bases to start from and through testing possible monitoring/ management techniques, it became clear a strategic ecological system approach was required. This resulted in beginning the development of a Malheur Lake systems model that would enable transfer of knowledge through time and test/inform future management decisions. Resources were also directed towards social and economic analysis to strengthen future management decisions and develop implementation resources. The other major component of improving Refuge aquatic health was development of an integrated wetland/river plan. Advancing efforts on Malheur Lake required significant commitments of resources from the Refuge and partners. This necessary commitment of resources prevented work on integrated wetland/river planning and testing. The Ecology Work Group (established in the CCP) focused on obtaining data in wet meadow habitats related to the grazing and haying program through independent third party monitoring. This collaborative effort recognized the need for developing a state and transition model. Due to habitat configurations it was found not possible to fully develop needed science on Refuge lands alone. The scientific effort was then expanded to other parts of the Basin with support from Refuge permittee resources.

inaugural report Oregon Cultural Trust fy 2003 – fy 2006 Grant dollars from the Cultural Trust are transformational. In historic Oregon City, they helped bring a more stable operating structure to separate organizations with marginal resources. As a result, we continue to share Oregon’s earliest stories with tens of thousands of visitors, many of them students, every year. —David Porter Clackamas Heritage Partners September 2007 Dear Oregon Cultural Trust supporters and interested Oregonians: With genuine pride we present the Oregon Cultural Trust’s inaugural report from the launch of the Trust in December 2002 through June 30, 2006 (the end of fiscal year 2006). It features the people, the process, the challenges and the success stories. While those years were difficult financial ones for the State, the Trust forged ahead in an inventive and creative manner. Our accomplishments were made possible by a small, agile and highly committed staff; a dedicated, hands-on board of directors; many enthusiastic partners throughout the state; and widespread public buy-in. As this inaugural report shows, the measurable results, given the financial environ- ment, are almost astonishing. In brief, more than $10 million was raised; this came primarily from 10,500 donors who took advantage of Oregon’s unique and generous cultural tax credit. It also came from those who purchased the cultural license plate, those who made gifts beyond the tax credit provision, and from foundations and in-kind corporate gifts. Through June 30, 2006, 262 grants to statewide partners, county coalitions and cultural organizations in all parts of Oregon totaled $2,418,343.
