Redhawk Report Redhawk Report Vol. 7, Issue 3 (Winter Recap) A chronicle of the excellence at Parsippany High School Hello RedHawks, The nice thing about a snow day is that you can knock out the entire Redhawk Report in one day (after shoveling). As you will see, they have been up to impressive stuff, including winning another State Championships for ACDEC, claiming a wrestling district title, attaining glory through musical skills, and various other academic and extracurricular successes. They placed 2nd overall in the State Sectional meet for the third year in a row. The following 7 individuals placed at the State Sectional meet to advance to the state group meet: Kwaku Agyemang, John Burk, Vincent Colantoni, Anthony Colasuonno, Chris Lupo, Hamza Qureshi, and Eric Schlosser. Kwaku Agyemang was an individual Sectional Champion in the 400m dash and the 55m dash. He advanced all the way to the Meet of Champions, where he finished 13th in the state in the 55m dash. John Burk was an individual champion in the shot put. He was also the Morris County Champion in the shot put and finished 4th overall at the Meet of Champions. We had several school records broken. Chris Lupo set a new school record in the 1000m. Eric Schlosser broke the 1600m record. John Burk broke his own shot put record (several times). Kwaku Agyemang broke his own record in the 300m dash. The boys DMR team of Vincent Colantoni, Nana Agyemang, Chris Lupo and Eric Schlosser set a new school record as well. On the girls end, we had the following 5 girls advance to the State Group Meet: Christina Fernandez, Nathalia Giraldo, Olivia Leon, Amanda Ribeiro, and Olivia Shoshan. The team looks forward to a great Spring Track & Field Season. PHS BOOK CLUB SKYPES WITH AUTHOR The PHS Book Club recently read the book Croak by Gina Damico. After reading the book individually, the group met in the library to eat some ice cream and to discuss the novel. To make things even cooler, Mr. Bush (who went to BC with Damico) set up a skype session with the author. Book club members got to ask Gina Damico about Croak and her other books and got a chance to hear about her writing process and experience. It was an awesome (and delicious) experience. AAC CLUB BIG SHOW The PHS Asian-American Club would like to thank all parents, students, and staff who attended our 6th Annual BIG SHOW. Thanks to your support, we were able to donate an unprecedented amount (over $650) to Operation Smile! We invite all students to join in our bi- weekly meetings for the rest of the year where we will be learning new K-Pop Dances. We have a Movie Night coming up on March 24 and a Game Night scheduled for May 12. Our Sushi-Tea Dance will be May 26. Please join us if you are interested--all are welcome! SCIENCE OLYMPIAD TEAM RESULTS Our Science Olympiad Team, under the direction of Ms. D’Arienzo, earned the following achievements at their two competitions this winter: 2nd Electric Vehicle, 5th Optics, Team Spirit Award; 4th Experimental Design, 5th Robot Arm, 6th Wind Power. At their final competition they finished 9th overall out of 20 teams. SWIM TEAM RECAP (BERNAUER MAKES MEET OF CHAMPIONS) Hard to believe that the Redhawks Swim Team season has come to a close. Another fun, exciting and growing season for the Redhawks. With Lauryn Patracuolla and Alice Limanova as the girls captains and Donald Pham and Sriram Rao as the boys captains, the team was lead by leaders with sportsmanship, positivity and hard work ethic. While neither the boys or girls side didn't have a win this season, they had one of our teammates head to the Meet of Champions for the second year in a row. Kate Bernauer is a hard worker who inspires her teammates to work even harder. It was a wonderful season with laughs, progress, hard work and continued sportsmanship and respect for themselves and others. They wish their seniors, Donald Pham, Spencer Huang, and Mohit Pathak the best of luck with the next stage in their lives. All County Honorable Mentions on the girls and boys side were received by Kate Bernauer, Lauryn Patracuolla, Spencer Huang and Mohit Pathak. At our County Championship meet Kate Bernauer and Mohit Pathak were 4th in the 100 Fly in our section. Another successful year! Coach Najjar-Keith is sure that 2017-2018 will be the best one yet. PAR HIGH 60TH ROLLS ON…. As part of Parsippany High School’s 60h Anniversary, we have continued to do some things to commemorate all of the good and interesting parts of our school’s history. There is a new “60” display featuring pictures of students from every graduating class, information on the website listing achievements from 1958 to present (valedictorian, salutatorian, Student Council President, etc..), and we are currently gathering information on PHS grads who competed in college athletics… MARKS REPEATS AS BOWLING CHAMPION! Congrats to PHS's Lauren Marks for defending her Morris County Girls Bowling title!! She had the high series of 581 bowled the highest game with 249 (a new county record).
