Ontario Women's League Ontario Women's League AURORA BARBARIANS (1 60 TORONTOSCOTTISH (0 10 TORONTOSARACENS (0 20 AURORA BARBARIANS V Brantford Harlequins 2016 Harlequins Outscore Hornets The 2016 Harlequins season kicked off on Saturday, as a mixed side hopped the county line and into Hornet territory. While the build up to this season has seen a few horses still in the stable, Goodrow's had the Van Horne twins doing laps since the start of the mudding season, and they were in need of a hit out. And they're off. The game itself was probably better in memory than it would read on paper... Safe to say it's a good thing Dylan Mundy was there, as he provided some ink for the score sheet. Thanks also to Casey Bouk for forgetting the match was a 'friendly', and looking generally grumpy all day. The final score saw the Quins win comfortably 6 touchdowns to 3, with the work shared equally backs and Saturday April 30, 2016 Saturday forwards. Well done to all the new caps, everyone looked capable on the park and some good rugby was played. The coaches conferred post match, and it has been decided that Paul Auzins currently holds the title as "Best Player at the Club" for his outstanding work in awesomeness. With almost wizard like control, this guy injects himself into a match and leaves the other 29 players on the field astounded. Just ask the fans. Now the challenge is on to take that title. Best of luck. And with that, we're right into it. Home performances at Harlequins the next two Saturdays. If you want to be a part of it, make your way out to training, Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30pm. Harlequins Comfort the Camels The Quins men saw the preseason come to a close with a comfortable 2016 win over the Stoney Creek Camels last weekend. With both teams still testing combinations, the game was a bit of a mixed affair, but the Harlequins looked comfortable testing routes in both Forward and Back channels and were able to keep the Camels beached for much of the first half. Everyone played well, including Paul Auzins, and he wasn't even there. The second half continued in much of the same fashion as the first, May 7, May though with some credit to the visitors, the game became a much more back and forth exchange. 15 changes off the bench saw some loss in continuity, but also saw some great individual performances. The defense of the collective did it's job, holding the Creek to a few well earned tries, while the Offense struck early and often, collecting double the Camel's tallies. And a fun afternoon was enjoyed by all. And just like that, the preseason's over for another year Saturday Saturday Welcome to the start of the season: Preview When the final whistle sounded on the Quins 2015 season, the men's team found itself one game short of it's goal. To get stuck in that semi final for a third year left a bad taste. Which fueled the off season hunger. The Van Hornes hit the trough, and have come back thicker. Mahar spent the winter at 'Bro camp, and just wants to scrum. Eric Howard looked 'next level' for a solid 60 minutes in last weekend's preseason, and should be able to go the full 80 once he's a little older. Lickers looks to be back to a stable weight, and back to his usual hard working self. While speaking of tackle monsters, there's another one with a pocket full of red cards that's been running around dropping bodies like chicken into the fryer. I think his name is Ya Hey. Goodrow's got a full complement of horses to run the paddock this summer, and it will be hard to stop that much talent and that much pace. Schouten and Piatek will continue to contend as top half back pairing in the province, but this season, the competition will rage on 2016 Tuesdays and Thursdays. Will Kelly is back after a stint in the UK including Canada U18 tour, and has generally looked the part. The snappy service from Will McArthur should help the young freshman coming back with a tight new haircut and a shiny OUA Gold medal. It's done wonders for his ego. Academics continue to summer in Brantford, Jonah Nadler is back early after a shortened stint last season, while Adam Maahs is choosing to May 7, May spend his break between semesters in the backline, which ups our average beard length tremendously, and should correlate with more tries. That's Science. And then there's the MacDonell brothers. Rory wears a suit and tie to training, and generally makes defenders look ridiculous. Hugh is starting to get the Jer Rawson stare. That can't be good for the opposition. Side note, in an effort to ensure Barclay Luke never wears the #13 jersey Saturday Saturday again, Hugh is hiding them all in his mom's basement. Wiley move. The new caps are also looking sharper than a Kolby Francis haircut, the lead up and comer looking large as he fights to cut his way into that McKelvey jersey. Dylan Mundy joins the side and has proven himself dangerous in the loose. Joe Dalia showed up 100 lbs heavier and at least a foot taller, and changed his last name. He goes to Queens now too and became instant best friends with the Van Horne twins. We're excited to see him in the line out. The general view seems to be favorable, new talent coming into the team through the junior ranks, consistency on the field, and 2016 generally good momentum heading into the first home fixture of the year. George Jones left the fields to the club, and right now, the men's team owns them, not having lost May 7, May there since summer of 2014. The development side sees some similar faces back in this year, and will be bolstered by a growing depth in talent club wide. The addition of the 3rds social side should bring out some old faces, and some new fans. This season features Thursday and Friday night games, as well as some Saturday nights under the lights at the new stadium in Saturday Saturday town. Tell your less cool friends you're busy this weekend, cause you're going clubbing with your friend DJ Stevie P and the Harlequins. You can't not have fun at a rugby club. And That's Science. Add in the rivalry over the past decade, remember when we finished first in the Marshall Championship and they were the ‘League Champions'? And the fact that the Scottish ended the Quins season in convincing fashion, it sets the stage for some pretty big collisions.

U19 MEN & U20 WOMEN CANADIAN RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIPS July 14-19, 2015 Regina Rugby Park Message from the Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan and the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport, I welcome you to the 2015 Under 19 Canadian Rugby Championships here in our provincial capital. This year has been a great one for sport in Saskatchewan. In February, we hosted the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and celebrated our athletes’ successes at the 2015 Canada Winter Games. Later this summer, we will cheer on those competing in the Western Canada Summer Games in Fort McMurray. This week’s Under 19 Championship only adds to the excitement and our Government is proud to showcase our province and support all athletes and coaches as they strive for rugby gold. Rugby is a game of pace, determination and grit. It teaches athletic competition, rewards hard work and emphasizes teamwork to players and spectators alike. By encouraging its athletes to live healthy, active lifestyles, it enhances lives and inspires individuals to greatness. Greatness, however, would not be possible without the supporters that enable our athletes to compete. I thank all tournament coaches, officials, sponsors and parents for ensuring that sport enriches the lives of youth across our country. Of course, I also recognize the volunteers who have made this event and so many others in our province possible. It’s because of your hard work and selfless dedication that Saskatchewan remains the province with the highest volunteer rate in Canada. For all you do, thank you.
