What was once a united state of Bengal is now divided into two parts, the sovereign country of Bangladesh and the state of West Bengal in India. The predominant religion in Bangladesh is Islam and that of West Bengal is Hinduism. Throughout history, ideas and identifications of certain elements of culture as ‘tradition’ have played an important role in the construction of notions of identity in this region, where multiple cultures continue to meet. SCHOOL OF ART AND ARCHITECTURE ULAB Umme Hani 10308009 Seminar II Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the requirements For the Degree of Bachelor of Architecture Department of Architecture BRAC University I ACKNOWLEDGMENT As I reflect on my five years in architecture, I realize I have come a long way from the confused fresher back in 2010. I have learned and experienced so much and I am ever so grateful to the Almighty for giving me that opportunity. I would start out with a clichéd expression in the architecture community-“Architecture is not a career or a profession but it’s a lifestyle”. Throughout my undergraduate period, I have understood how righteously this was said and I am thankful to those who have helped me get acquainted with this lifestyle, offered assistance when I fell back and guided me during my crucial hours. The teachers have been more than helpful. Some of them really believed in me and inspired me to push it to my limits. Their words of wisdom have always helped me to see the light at the end of the tunnel whenever I was in doubt and over time I have realized how important this could be. I would like to mention some of them and offer my gratitude for helping me come this far: Shams Mansoor Ghani Nesfun Nahar Abul Fazal Mahmudun Nobi Hafiz Hasan Zainab Faruqui Ali Muzibur Rahman Shakil Ahmad Shimul There’s another set of people without whom I would have been entirely lost in my thesis. Without the help of these people, it would not be possible for me to develop my project and bring it this far.
