Aubrion du Gers, the runner-up in this year’s Elitlopp, and Cyrano du Pont, both trained in the stable of Jean-Michel Bazire, died of injuries in a head-on crash, according to a report in Paris Turf. Bazire had indicated he planned to bring Aubrion du Gers to this fall’s Yonkers International Trot. “We are all devastated,” Bazire told Paris Turf. “It is terrible for everyone in the whole team. We have a very difficult time right now and Aubrion du Gers was everyone’s sweetheart. “He had some little peculiarities,” said Bazire fondly of his stable star. “Among other things, he had to be the first to be fed in the stable, otherwise he started kicking.” According to reports, Aubrion du G’s rider, Julie Grenet, broke her tibia in the accident. The 9-year-old Aubrion du Gers won 46 of 73 StallTZ.se/Adam Strom Photo starts and earned more than 2.5 million euros (approximately $2.8 mil- lion). What kind of car do you drive? A 2010 Hyundai Sonata. What kind of music do you listen to? Classic rock. Favorite artist? The Allman Brothers Band. Favorite meal to cook? Blackened salmon. Favorite meal to eat? Prime Rib. Cooked medium rare. When you’re not involved with racing, what do you like to do? Go the pool. In the winter it’s go to Happy Hour. Any hobbies? It’s been a long time since I’ve thought about any hobbies. I guess maybe it’s go to the gym, but not often enough to call it a hobby though. Where’s your favorite place you’ve visited? Definitely New Orleans and Key West. You have a place in the world you want to visit? Prince Edward Island. I hope to make it there one day. If you could have dinner with anybody, past or present, who would it be? Stanley Dancer. He was at the end of his career when I was just getting started. So I never got to know him. Have you ever owned a horse? Yes. It was a broodmare but it didn’t work out too well. Do you someday want to own a racehorse? Yes, maybe someday. I’d probably go racehorse more than a yearling. Who is your favorite horse? Muscle Hill. What’s the greatest race you’ve ever seen? Varenne winning the 2001 Breeders Crown Trot at the Meadowlands. What’s the highest-priced winner you’ve ever given out? I can’t remember the names but I’ve given out some 30-1 shots. It’s hard to find 30-1 horses to give out.
