MUNCE RACING NEWSLETTER Welcome to our June 2018 edition of the Munce Racing Newsletter 12 MONTHS AT EAGLE FARM It is hard to believe that is has been 12 months since we moved into the stables at Eagle Farm. It feels like we have been based there a lot longer and it certainly makes a difference with all being at the one location. Owners are able to visit their horses with ease and we have been able to accommodate regular open mornings for syndicators. MUNCE RACING, NOVA 106.9 & UBET With the Brisbane Winter Carnival over for another 12 months we would like to thank UBET, Nova 106.9 and in particular ‘Luttsy’ from the morning show for their support during this time. Just one of the promotions that was run during the carnival was when Nova teamed with Munce Racing and UBET to give listeners an “ownership experience” during the carnival. Each time Boomsara ran, five people become part of his “ownership group”, with the chance to win $5000 each if he won. Luttsy said Boomsara garnered a huge following during the promotion. “We had an extraordinary response from our listeners. It was a great way to get people who would otherwise not be interested in racing to take some notice of the carnival and we had heaps of fun with it.” Luttsy, Boomsara & Chris MUNCE RACING NEWSLETTER 50 WINNERS FOR CHRIS AND THE STABLE A huge congratulations to Chris for racking up his 50th winner at the beginning of June when Distroyia won the last race at Beaudesert on the 5th of June. A big thank you to all our staff at Eagle Farm for their hard work looking after the horses. AROUND THE STABLE Our Yearlings With only a month to go before our yearlings become 2-year-olds it is full steam ahead. With nearly 25 yearlings in our stable this year it is a very exciting time. The staff always look forward to when they come back into the stable after having a nice break to see how they have grown and developed and how their personalities start to come through. They are definitely ‘kids’ with some being a little more cheeky than others. The new season kicks off in September with the 2-year-old trials which is a very exciting time for both owners and the stable. There have been quite a few yearlings that are showing plenty of promise, so don’t miss the opportunity of being a part of one of them as we have only a few shares left. Our current crop of 2-year-olds Some of our current 2-year-olds will step out onto the track very soon with Cartland and Deneuve nominated at both the Gold Coast on Saturday and the Sunshine Coast on Sunday. Cartland Deneuve MUNCE RACING NEWSLETTER The owners of Mulga Thumper and Racecourse Road are also excited to see their charges back in the stable. After 2 nice trials during June Mulga Thumper returns to track this weekend, nominated at both the Gold Coast and Toowoomba on Saturday. Racecourse Road has only just returned to the stables after have a nice break and time spent at the pre-trainers. Older Horses After breaking her maiden at Ipswich on the 25th of May Helfuchi has continued to impress her trainer with her work and attitude at the stables. She has been racing consistently for her owners and continues to improve as she races more. She went to Beaudesert on the 5th of June with Mark Du Plessis maintaining his connection with the filly. Breaking smartly away from the barriers and talking up her normal front running style she was a picture in motion but, unfortunately, in the 50 metres she was caught by eventual winner Chapter and Verse. Chris was more than happy with her effort and stated that the winner had a very huge wrap around it so she certainly was not disgraced. http://www.racingqueensland.com.au/racing-and-results/video-replays/player/thoroughbred/bdst/20180605/race/5 A strong third, behind Lean Mean Machine and Zousain in the Sires Produce on the 26th of May was an encouraging sign for Boomsara as he was aimed towards the G1 JJ Atkins on the 9th of June at Doomben. Even though beaten Chris was more than happy with his effort this campaign. ‘I was really proud of all his races this time in. He always gave his all we are all looking forward to when he comes back into the stables after having a well-deserved break.’ New comer to the stable Hard Ruler (All Too Hard x Legislature) has definitely made an impact after arriving from the Mick Price stables in Melbourne. Since arriving in April she has had 3 starts for the stables kicking off this preparation with a hard fought second at the Sunny Coast going down by less than a length. Her next two starts result in 2 wins, both by approx. two & a half lengths over her rivals. Her next start will be in the Grafton Guineas on the 11th of July. Good luck to all her owners. http://www.racingqueensland.com.au/racing-and-results/video- replays/player/thoroughbred/scst/20180610/race/9 http://www.racingqueensland.com.au/racing-and-results/video-replays/player/thoroughbred/doom/20180627/race/6 MUNCE RACING NEWSLETTER Zegota is another newcomer to the stables that has also proved her worth to the stables. Transferring up from Brad Widdup’s stable in Sydney Zegota has taken to the Queensland winter like a duck to water. He three starts have resulted in her breaking her maiden on the 2nd of June following up with another win 2 weeks later on the 17th. ‘She has a heart as big as herself and I could not be more impressed with the way she has stepped up.’ Chris noted after her second win. Her third start this month resulted in a fourth placing but Chris was still happy with how she performed and he is more than confident she will be back in the winner’s circle soon enough. http://www.racingqueensland.com.au/racing-and-results/video-replays/player/thoroughbred/gatt/20180602/race/2 http://www.racingqueensland.com.au/racing-and-results/video-replays/player/thoroughbred/scst/20180617/race/6 Stable stalwart and favourite First Crush may not have chalked up a win with his 2 starts in June but he proved what a tough and determined horse he is. It took a G2 winner from New Zealand and Darren Weir trained horse to relegate him into second position in both the Ipswich Cup and the Caloundra Cup. Bruno (as he is known around the stables) is one of those horses that always puts in and is so honest. He will now head to the Grafton Cup on the 12th of July. Keep your eyes open for…….. Tevye, Satyricon, Hellaroo and Keep Your Roses. All have shown their trainer the potential they have and are due to break through this preparation. MUNCE RACING NEWSLETTER HORSES AVAILABLE Dawn Approach x Savings (chestnut colt) Chris said, “He is a lovely big, strong, athletic colt with a very athletic walk on him with a good head on his shoulder. His x-rays were all clean and I felt he was easily the best colt at the sale”. By Dawn Approach (New Approach) the colt is out of the Iglesia mare Savings. Our colt has just completed a couple of weeks in the stable after coming in from the breakers and Chris could not be happier with the way he has stepped up to the mark. He described the yearling as a big scopey colt that covers a lot of ground. ‘I am really excited with the way he looks, the way he was broken in and how he came into the stables. He took everything in his stride and to learn the amount that he did in such a short amount of time was very pleasing. On his last day we put him through the barriers and after breaking nicely he went up to the line very strongly with company.’ The colt will now head out for a four-week break before coming back into the stables where Chris will try and aim him up for the early 2-year-old races. The colt is BOBS Prizemoney eligible and eligible for the 2019 Capricornia Yearling Sale 2YO Classic race. Kuroshio x Superb Melody (brown/black colt) – 40% still available Chris said, “he is a magnificent, beautiful colt with a terrific walk and very athletic. I believe he was one of the best colts at the sale.” By Kuroshio (Exceed and Excel) out of the city winning mare Superb Melody (Unbridled’s Song) After completing his time at the breakers, the colt spent about a week at Eagle Farm going through his education. In the early part of June, after about a months’ break, he came back into the stables for some more training and education before heading back out to Oakwood Farm for another break. Chris’s comments from his last prep: ‘He has developed into a lovely big colt. He is still all legs at the moment but is a very willing and quick learning horse. He has come back a lot stronger and a lot more mature. I will take him as far as we can education wise this preparation, but we will give him the time he requires to develop.’ The colt is paid up for the Queensland Thoroughbred Incentive Scheme (QTIS) and is eligible for the Magic Millions Race Series.
