  • TONY STEWART: Driver, Owner, Philanthropist
TONY STEWART: Driver, Owner, Philanthropist Birthdate: May 20, 1971 Birthplace: Columbus, Indiana Hometown: Columbus, Indiana Residence: Columbus, Indiana Social Media: Facebook (@TonyStewart), Twitter (@TonyStewart) and Instagram (@TSRsmoke) DRIVER: Pick a racing series. Choose a style of racecar. Name a venue. Chances are, Tony Stewart has proven victorious – in and out of the driver’s seat. After a 20-year NASCAR driving career, the last 18 of which were spent in the NASCAR Cup Series, Stewart retired from his NASCAR driving duties following the 2016 season to focus on his co-ownership of Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) with industrialist Gene Haas, and to partake in the kind of open-wheel dirt racing where his path to NASCAR began. Since first wheeling a go-kart in 1978 at a Westport, Indiana, racetrack, Stewart went on to score 12 driving championships. His most widely-known titles are the three he scored in the NASCAR Cup Series. Stewart earned his first crown in 2002 by beating veteran racer Mark Martin by 38 points, a second in 2005 when he bested Greg Biffle by 35 points and a third in 2011 when he outdueled Carl Edwards by virtue of a tiebreaker. The two ended the season tied in points, but Stewart’s five-win tally trumped Edwards’ lone victory. Championships begat championships for Stewart. The Columbus, Indiana, native came to NASCAR in 1999 by way of the IndyCar Series, where he was the series champion in 1997. And before he made his mark in Indy cars, Stewart made a name for himself in the rough-and-tumble world of the United States Auto Club (USAC).

The NASCAR Playoff System is Broken Who had the best season? Part II Kurk Altmann 9.9.2020 [email protected] Abstract The last paper showed that there was a flaw in the different playoff systems since the winner each season depended greatly on which playoff system was being used. With that said, it was not clear how to determine which playoff system was best and even more challenging to determine who had the best season. This paper sets out to determine which NASCAR driver between the years 1975-2019 had the best season. After establishing a way to determine who had the best season, a better understanding of which playoff system is superior becomes clearer. It will never be possible to definitively determine who was the best driver because of equipment, era and other factors but it is possible to say who had the best season and how many best seasons a diver had. The driver with the best season all time also had the second-best season of all time and the name of that driver may surprise you. Introduction If you watch any of those shows where experts debate sports, they will certainly debate who was the Greatest of All Time (G.O.A.T.) of a specific sport. Jordon or LeBron? Tiger or Jack? Brady or the field? What never gets discussed is Petty, Earnhardt or Johnson. Probably because NASCAR isn’t a major sport in the US with the coverage football or basketball gets. Even so, it seems that the NASCAR community is content in the number of championships determining who was the G.O.A.T.

  • Sprint Cup Race Recap - Daytona KESELOWSKI EARNS HARD-FOUGHT 8TH-PLACE FINISH at DAYTONA
Contact: Matthew Simmons Adam Saal Bill Klingbeil SRT Motorsports - Sprint Cup Race Recap - Daytona KESELOWSKI EARNS HARD-FOUGHT 8TH-PLACE FINISH AT DAYTONA July 7, 2012, Daytona Beach, Fla. - DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., (Saturday, July 7, 2012) – Brad Keselowski fought-off a pit road accident, recovered from a spin and avoided several multi-car wrecks to finish eighth in the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway. Restrictor-plate racing at superspeedways is always a dance with anticipated danger. It’s never “if” but “when” the big wreck will happen. Saturday night was no different. A couple of six-car mishaps served as a primer for a 14-car wreck in the tri-oval on Lap 153 and a 15-car donnybrook as the field raced to the checkered flag in the 160-lap event. Of the 43 starters, 33 cars were involved in the four mishaps, several in more than one. “Incredible,” said Keselowski after unbuckling from the No. 2 Dodge. “Sometimes you come to these places and you have no luck and sometimes you come to these places and have luck and don’t run good. We just haven’t had a race here where we’ve run good and had luck. We’re proud to bring this Miller Lite Dodge home to an eight-place finish. It was crazy.” After qualifying his Miller Lite Dodge ninth, Keselowski patiently ran on the lead lap as the first 81 laps of the 160-lap event ran caution-free. Once past halfway, the racing intensified. While pitting with the leaders under the race’s first caution on Lap 82, Ryan Newman slid into Keselowski’s Dodge while it was in the pit stall.
