April 2010 | 20:00 Uhr Hotel Schwanen | Obere Bahnhofstr. 21 | 9500 Wil Niko Nikolla | Architekt MA ZFH / SWB Die „Albanische Riviera“ ist ein heute noch schlecht erschlossener und vom Tourismus kaum berührter Küstenabschnitt im Süden des Landes. Doch nun werden in hohem Tempo Strassen gebaut und damit die Erreichbarkeit auch der Riviera verbessert. Der internationale Tourismus soll in diesem Küstenstreifen gefördert werden. Die Arbeit von Niko Nikolla stellt der zu erwartenden Entwicklung mit Fokus auf den Badetourismus eine alternative Strategie der Nischenpolitik basierend auf Alleinstellungsmerkmalen gegenüber. Ausgehend von einer systematischen Untersuchung der Qualitäten und originären Potenziale des Landstrichs werden landschaftliche und bauliche Elmente lokalisiert, die gezielt zum Ausgangspunkt unterschiedlicher Tourismusprojekte gemacht werden. Dabei wird das Augenmerk nicht bloss auf einen schmalen Küstenstreifen, sondern auch in die Tiefe des Raumes gelegt. Indem sich die Projekte immer an vorhandenen, doch mehrheitlich obsolet gewordenen Strukturen festmachen, an Kloster- oder Burgruinen, durch Abwanderung bedrohte, teilweise bereits zerfallenen Dörfern oder ehemaligen Militäranlagen, gehen sie nicht nur eine einzigartige Verbindung mit den Zeugen der Geschichte und Kultur dieses Landstrichs ein, sondern es wird gleichzeitig erreicht, dass diese Strukturen baulich erneuert und zu neuem Leben erweckt werden. .

By speculatively reversing the order of landscape perception from land to water, the coastline becomes a flexible device capable of responding to unpredictable future events - natural disasters related to climate change (rising sea levels), or globally challenging socio-political phenomena (such as mass migration growing in scope, complexity and impact). The experimental design approach involves the design and representation of an incremental waterscape.
