  • A's News Clips, Monday, January 31, 2011 Seattle GM Downplays
A’s News Clips, Monday, January 31, 2011 Seattle GM downplays Figgins-to-A's talk Zduriencik says plan remains for veteran to stay with Mariners By Jane Lee and Greg Johns / MLB.com Despite several reports that the Mariners and A's are talking about swapping third basemen Chone Figgins and Kevin Kouzmanoff, Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik said Friday his plan remains for Figgins to be with the Mariners this season. The Contra Costa Times was the first to report that Oakland was pursuing Figgins in exchange for Kouzmanoff and possibly a pitcher. "I'm looking forward to Figgins being our starting third baseman," Zduriencik said. "He'll be here tomorrow [for the Mariners' FanFest]. He's been agreeable to moving back to third base and that's our plan, to have Chone be our Opening Day third baseman." Oakland officials have not commented on the report. The A's previously -- and unsuccessfully -- attempted to lure in Adrian Beltre this winter, signaling the notion that they're not entirely satisfied with Kouzmanoff. Beltre ultimately turned down a six-year deal worth $76 million from Oakland in favor of a tour with the Rangers. It marked the second straight year in which Beltre spurned an offer from the A's, who subsequently avoided arbitration with Kouzmanoff last week by way of a one-year, $4.75 million contract. The 29-year-old Kouzmanoff compiled career lows in batting average (.247), on-base percentage (.283), slugging percentage (.396) and OPS (.679) in 2010 but also led the team with 16 home runs and 71 RBIs.

  • 2015 Event Information
2015 Event Information Event Partners www.BaseballCoachesClinic.com January 2015 Dear Coach, We are excited to welcome you as we celebrate our twelfth year of the Mohegan Sun World Baseball Coaches’ Convention. Beginning with the first clinic in 2004, we have sought to provide you with the very best in coaching education. We want this clinic to be something special and we have spent considerable time securing the best clinicians and designing a curriculum that addresses all levels of play and a range of coaching areas. Each year, we seek to improve your clinic experience and this year we've made two major improvements: we've redesigned the event layout to improve traffic flow and we are introducing an event App for your smartphone or tablet to put critical clinic information at your fingertips. We believe our clinic is more than just three days of coaching instruction; it is a chance to exchange ideas and learn from each other. Our convention staff, exhibitors and guest speakers will be available to you throughout the clinic. Please don’t hesitate to introduce yourself, ask a question or provide your own perspective on the game. A special thanks goes to the staff and management of the Mohegan Sun - our title sponsor - who have welcomed us and allowed us to use their outstanding facilities and amenities. We also thank our other sponsors for their important support, including: Extra Innings, Rawlings, On Deck Sports, Hitting Guru 3D, Baseball Heaven, Louisville Slugger, Baseball America, Club Diamond Nation, Lux Bond & Green, Jaypro Sports, The Coaches Insider and Geno’s Fastbreak Restaurant.

UNI BASEBALL CELEBRATES 100 YEARS OF WINNING Dating back to 1893, no University of Northern Iowa athletic team has won more games than the Panther baseball program. This season, UNI baseball opens its lOOth season with 952 wins all-time. (No baseball team was fielded in 1903-04, 1909-10 and 1943-45.) Originally begun when the school was known as Iowa State Normal School, the baseball team has represented the school when it was also known as Iowa State Teachers College and the State College of Iowa before assuming its present title in 1967. Starting in the years with Captain Avery as coach of the first two squads, the Panthers have built a program that thrives on hard working young men dedicated to being the best they can be on the diamond and in the classroom. Last year was no exception, as five Panthers; Ryan McGuire, Kevin Briggeman, Greg Woodin, Scott Sobkowiak and Aaron Houdeshell were named academic all-MVC by the sports information directors of the league.
