1 Hello and welcome to NTU Sport

I’m delighted to welcome you to Nottingham Trent University.

We believe that sport is a key part of your student life and at NTU you’re guaranteed to benefit from a high quality sports experience. So, whether you aspire to compete at the next Olympics, want to play sport for fun with some friends, or just want to get fit in our gyms – we have something to offer each and every one of you. NTU is now firmly established as one of the top competitors in the UK higher education sport rankings. After placing 43rd at the end of 2006/07, the University is now proud to be regularly ranked in the top 20 out of over 150 institutions from across the UK in the British Universities & Colleges Sport league. We’re happy to say that our students are just as proud to be representing NTU – in fact you will see #ProudToBePink on many tweets, picking up on the fact that all of our teams play in the distinctive hot pink kit that sets NTU Sport apart from the crowd. With a new and updated range of sport and fitness facilities at the City site and Clifton campus over the past two years, the opportunity exists for every student at NTU to participate in sports venues of the highest quality. Furthermore, with NTU employing some of the best coaches and instructors around, you can’t help but be inspired to be the best you can be! I wish you an enjoyable and successful time at NTU, and I hope that sport and exercise will help you to get the most out of being a student here. James Hayter Director of Sport

2 Welcome to Nottingham Trent University and the best years of your life! My name is Matt Nicholson and I am the elected Nottingham Trent Students’ Union (NTSU) Vice-President Sports for 2015/16.

My role is to represent students on sports-related issues, working alongside the NTU Sport department to ensure that your sporting experience here at university is as great as it can be! I also take a lead role in organising sporting events for students such as Sports Ball and the highly anticipated Nottingham Varsity Series.

I joined NTU Athletics in my first year having already competed in the sport for a number of years. The club has been like a family and given me some truly amazing memories and experiences, culminating in the honour to serve as the club’s president last year.

Away from the competitive side, there are plenty of other ways to get involved. From beginner and social sport sessions, to volunteering and helping to promote our activities via student media, all offer you the opportunity to keep fit, healthy and make some lifelong friends.

20 Every year, Nottingham becomes the stage for one of the greatest sporting battles ever to grace this fine country. It’s the most anticipated fixture of any sports team’s year. It’s the chance to wear your pink with pride. It’s the opportunity to chant, cheer and roar your University to victory. The annual Nottingham Varsity Series sees NTU face the University of Nottingham in a variety of sporting events, at a number of Nottingham’s most prestigious sporting venues. The series brings students from both universities together for a combination of fun and celebration of achievement. Even if you are not a big sports fan, you will find yourself getting drawn into the tension, excitement and atmosphere of the events as you support your respective team on the road to glory. “The event is not only a great opportunity for student athletes to demonstrate their skills in front of a big audience, it also raises funds for charity too.” (Paddy Atkinson, VP Sports 2013-15) So get your t-shirts, grab your banners and learn those chants. It’s time to show that you’re proud to be NTU.

The 2015 series included:

21 #ProudToBeNT U

We host many big sporting matches throughout the year. From our regular Wednesday afternoon fixtures to the epic Varsity battles, our sports teams couldn’t do it without your support. Cheering harder, louder and prouder than anyone else, NTU’s supporters add an incredible atmosphere to every event. In fact, if there was a league table for support, we’d definitely top it.
