Presents KID CUDI Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi (born January 30, 1984 in Shaker Heights, Ohio), better known by his stage name KiD CuDi, is a Grammy award nominated American rapper and singer who first gained attention after the release of his debut mixtape a KiD named CuDi which he released in collaboration with New York street wear brand 10.Deep. The mixtape caught the attention of Kanye West and led to Cudi’s signing to the G.O.O.D. Music Label. His debut album, Man on the Moon: The End of Day, was released September 15, 2009, and his second studio album Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr Rager, originally scheduled to be released September 14 2010, has been pushed October 25, 2010. He also has plans to record a collaboration album with Chip tha Ripper titled The Almighty GloryUS and one with Ratatat. The album’s first single is Day ‘N’ Nite, and is Kid Cudi’s greatest commercial success, the song charting well both in the USA and internationally and has sold over one million copies in the US alone. In June 2009, Kid Cudi released the single, Make Her Say (originally titled “I Poke Her Face”), which features Kanye West and Common, plus a clever sample of Lady Gaga’s hit single Kid Cudi was born in Cleveland, Ohio and lived in the diverse Poker Face. Aquil May 2018 ABSTRACT Authenticity in rap music holds historical importance in hip hop culture. Low-income blacks in New York City used rap music to express their feelings about and bring awareness to issues in their communities. Rap music is no longer as closely tied to its origins, but authenticity remains a valuable part of these expressions. Though researchers acknowledge rap music has changed, they use historical markers to identify what is authentic in rap music and rarely investigate how fans understand authenticity today. In-depth interviews with eighteen avid rap fans illustrate new ways fans determine authenticity in rap music. Borrowing from Swidler’s (1986) “cultural tool kit,” this study shows how fans draw from their personal toolkits to determine authenticity. Specifically, fans determine authenticity based on whether they believe an artist is telling stories about personal lived experiences, whether they can relate to an artist’s lyrics, and/or whether an artist shows vulnerability in some way. Conversely, fans consider lyrics inauthentic when a rapper tells exaggerated stories that do not seem plausible.

GRAMMY U Presents ALBUM REVIEW: KANYE WEST – “MY BEAUTIFUL DARK TWISTED FANTASY” BY LESLEY GWAM CONTINUED FROM MAIN PAGE Anyone who has read my blog (http://hiphopheadmistress.wordpress.com), knows that I absolutely adore Kanye West. So just like any other Yeezy fanatic, I rushed to my nearest music store to purchase My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy on November 22. To be completely honest, I was skeptical about purchasing West’s sixth studio release, because I loathed 808s & Heartbreak (the auto-tune is too much for my senses to handle. I like my rappers to rap, and my singers to sing, unless you’re Queen Latifah and can do both. But this is a discussion for another Wednesday Word). I was quickly won over, however, by his weekly G.O.O.D. Friday releases from kanyewest.com, particularly “Chain Heavy” and “The Joy.” While My Dark Twisted Fantasy does contain a fair amount of auto-tune, it is nevertheless a great album. I must say however, it is imperative to listen to the album multiple times to really grasp Kanye’s vision – a vision that I can’t say I’ve been able to fully comprehend yet. The album opens with “Dark Fantasy,” which serves as an extended album introduction, and features none other than record release date rival, Nicki Minaj as its narrator. The full bodied instrumental kicks in shortly after the one-minute mark, and the grandiose chorus only adds to the melody. While Kanye may have gotten a bit overzealous with the cameo appearances on “All of the Lights,” (the song’s liner notes credit Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Ryan Leslie, Fergie, John Legend, Charlie Wilson, Elton John, Kid Cudi, Elly Johnson and The-Dream with vocal credits), its emphasis on live instruments makes this song a standout number.

The "electroclash" movement was basically a revival of the dance-punk style of the new wave. It was New York dj Lawrence "Larry Tee" who coined the term, and the first Electroclash Festival was held in that city in 2001. However, the movement had its origins on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. One could argue that electroclash was born with Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass (1997), released by Belgian dj Ferenc van der Sluijs under the moniker I-f. At about the same time German house dj Helmut-Josef "DJ Hell" Geier was promoting a scene in Berlin that was basically electroclash. Another forerunner was French dj Caroline "Miss Kittin" Herve', who had recorded the EP Champagne (1998), a collaboration with Michael "The Hacker" Amato that included the pioneering hit 1982. The duo joined the fad that they had pioneered with First Album (2001). Britain was first exposed to electroclash when Liverpool's Ladytron released He Took Her To A Movie (1999), that was basically a cover of Kraftwerk's The Model.
