Today, State Treasurer John Chiang announced his endorsement of Jimmy Gomez for the 34th Congressional seat being vacated by Xavier Becerra.

“Jimmy Gomez has a proven progressive record of fighting for California families," said State Treasure John Chiang. "He and I share the same approach to Government: doing the most good for the most people. Working with Jimmy to help California small businesses become ADA compliant demonstrates Jimmy's genuine commitment to equity and his ability to think outside the box. John Chiang’s endorsement demonstrates the growing consensus that Jimmy Gomez is uniquely prepared to deliver results for the 34th Congressional District on day one. His endorsement reflects an understanding that Jimmy is committed to justice and the enforcement of fair and transparent business practices.

Jimmy Gomez is a State Assemblymember and former advocate for the United Nurses Associations of California. First elected in 2012, First elected in 2012, and re-elected in 2016 with over 86% of the vote, his assembly district encompasses more than half the 34th Congressional District. He is known for passing landmark legislation expanding paid family leave, funding for domestic violence prevention, and increased for education funding and access.

The son of immigrants, Jimmy was among the first in his family to attend and graduate from college, transferring from community college to UCLA and then earned a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He lives in Eagle Rock with his wife Mary.
